GINGER FISH

Kenneth Wilson was raised in a family of musicians. Wilson's father is a singer who had toured with the legendary crooner Frank Sinatra, whilst his mother is a dancer whose career started with Warner Brothers at a very young age, and was in the Little Rascals dance chorus.

As a child, due to the careers of his parents, Wilson was moved around America, spending a considerable amount of his childhood in the Showbiz environment of Las Vegas. He grew up with music tastes similar to other formative Manson members; Black Sabbath, Pantera, Zappa, Rush [he cites Neil Peart as one of his influences] - to name but a few. Their records and inspired him to become a drummer, and he began to learn whilst still only in second grade. He also played in the school marching band, and drum corps. He later studied music at university, following the family way, which later found him drumming for artists such as Paul Anka (a similar, if lesser known figure to the aforementioned Frank Sinatra) and housewives favourite Barry Manilow.

Some years later, in 1995, at this stage a respected and accomplished session musician and approaching his thirtieth birthday, Wilson recieved a call from Marilyn Manson's (then) manager, requesting that he audition for them as a replacement for Sara Lee Lucas. He was hired both on merit of his live abilities, and also due to his knowledge of digital music and programming, an area Lucas was not fluent in at all. Upon entering the fold, he was christened Ginger Fish, following the trend of Marilyn Manson members to take the forename and surname of a female entertainment figure, and a male serial killer, respectively. His was culled from Hollywood actress Ginger Rogers, and murderer Albert Fish. Fish would alsoprove to be the last member inducted to follow this pattern.

From this point, (his first recorded and listed appearance being on Smells Like Children) Ginger has been a full-time member of the band, credited on every album as either studio/live drummer, or in case of The High End Of Low, pianist (on Into The Fire). However his tenure in the band, thought dedicated and consistent, has been far from easy. He has no quarrel with Manson, though it has always been clear they like to bait and subsequently test one another:-

"Either Marilyn Manson's going to kill me or I'm going to kill him. Every night on stage I realise this could be the night I'm killed"
Ginger Fish

Not necessarily by Manson's hand, but perhaps characteristically of Rock N' Roll drummers, Ginger has been the most accident prone member of the band. Over the years, he has sustained neck and arm injuries caused by flying mic stands, broken hands (that left him wondering if his career had ended), a broken collarbone after crashing forward from an unstrapped drumkit, a dislodged knee, and chronic numbness in one of his feet (resulting in having to adjust his playing style). With this grim list in mind, it is apt that he describes the stage as a "warzone". Even in 2004, at the start of the Against All Gods tour promoting Lest We Forget, Ginger sat out the first stages, having broken his nose and arm after falling from the stage at a German award show. "I will keep playing with Marilyn Manson till I drop dead." (Slagwerkkrant 04)

Though injury and his side-project work on Martyr Plot have caused occasional speculation on whether Ginger will return for later Manson records, there has never been any comment on this from anyone within the band, besides Manson, who always enthuses that working with Ginger is a pleasure, and that the door is always open each time new recording and tour duties arise. Despite being the most impersonal and reserved figure in Marilyn Manson, Ginger is nonetheless, at times, as unpredictable and debauched as any other member can claim, though without question one of the most longstanding, talented, and dependable.

On Feburary 23 2011 Ginger Fish announced that he had decided to part ways with Marilyn Manson. The following announcement was posted on his Facebook page.

"I am regretful to inform the fans that I have decided to step down as a member of Marilyn Manson, and see where my life, and the knowledge of my availability cares to take me. I can't stand by to watch opportunities pass me by simply because the knowledge of my availability wasn't clearly expressed by me. I wish my brothers well, and I expect nothing but great things from them. Sincerely, Ginger Fish
