TIM SKOLD

Born to parents Linda and Lennart (his father a professional drummer), Skold started early musically. Initial bands he was involved with included Act, and Shylock. His first public performances were when he was aged between 12-14.

In the early 1980s Skold met up with Harry Cody and together they formed Kingpin. Their first album was called Welcome To Bop City. In 1986 the band moved to the United States, and continued under the new name Shotgun Messiah. Over the next four years, the band released two more albums and an EP. In 1993, following the breakdown of Shotgun Messiah, Tim began working on his own solo project, of which he was both singer and songwriter. It was realised with a Punk/Industrial Metal inspired album, released in 1996, titled simply Skold. From that album he met further success with tracks being used for numerous movie soundtracks. Hail Mary was used for Disturbing Behaviour, Chaos was heard on Universal Soldier: The Return, and also on the Sony Playstation game Twisted Metal 4. Skold was accompanied by a series of live dates, before Tim joined KMFDM in 1997. Initially he had only collaborated on the track Anarchy, and the album Symbols. This work, however, resulted in a full time membership.

KMFDM split/went into hiatus in 1999 (the same year they were named, alongside Marilyn Manson, as potential cultural influences for the Columbine High School shooters Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold), and were regrouped as MDFMK. In 2000 they released a self-titled album, but were later re-grouped once again under the former name KMFDM. Tim continued to work with KMFDM, however, in 2002 he collaborated with Marilyn Manson on soundtrack pieces for the live action film Resident Evil (based on the popular console game). The Industrial Metal leanings of these tracks led to Skold becoming the full-time bass player for Marilyn Manson, as Manson's former writing partner Twiggy Ramirez departed in May 2002. After this point, Skold would record and co-produce Manson's 2003 release, The Golden Age Of Grotesque. Musically and visually incorporating himself into the Manson schematic for this record and subsequent singles collection Lest We Forget, Skold was accepted surprisingly well by established fan groups, despite the undeniable void left following Twiggy's decision to leave.

Skold would play through the Against All Gods tour, after which point Manson temporarily seemed to bow out of music, only briefly resurfacing to record a cover of the song This Is Halloween for an updated soundtrack to Tim Burton's film The Nightmare Before Christmas. After this point, veteran keyboardist Madonna Wayne Gacy was apparently phased out due to incommunication and legality, and Manson embarked on a semi-retirement which saw him focus more predominantly on his painting and exhibitions. Following this, he was served divorce papers by wife Dita Von Teese, citing irreconcilable differences. Although disputable amongst fan groups, it was suggested that the relationship that later emerged between Manson and young actress Evan Rachel Wood was instrumental in this, and following the split, Manson enlisted Skold to record the album that saw him return to music, and which was dedicated to Evan; EAT ME, DRINK ME. The album was gothic, in some places minimalist, and was solely a collaboration between Manson and Skold, who was noted for introducing extensive guitar solos to the Marilyn Manson sound, and creating a more personal, introverted atmosphere. Though he would transfer to lead guitarist for the first half of The Rape Of The World tour in 2007, as Twiggy Ramirez re-joined the fold in January of 2008, completing the tour, Skold was quietly ushered out.

Though it is not perceived that there was a tangible issue between Manson and Skold following this change, Skold has since simply referred to Manson as "the singer" during a subsequent guitar tuition video, and Manson similarly has mentioned Skold retrospectively as "the Swedish guy".

Skold has more recently worked with KMFDM again, and is also set to release another solo album.
