ZIM ZUM

Zim Zum is a guitarist, singer, career musician and proprieter of The Black Hearts Bar and music venue, Chicago.

Zum was live and studio guitarist for Marilyn Manson between 1996 and 1998, undertaking all lead guitar duties for the Dead To The World International tour in support of Antichrist Superstar [1996-97], and contributing songwriter for Mechanical Animals.

Zim Zum joined Marilyn Manson as the live guitarist for the Dead To The World tour in 1996, following the departure of Daisy Berkowitz. Although Zum didn't play on any studio recordings for Antichrist Superstar, he is listed as "Live Guitarist" in the album's liner notes, similar to the manner that John 5 would be as his eventual successor in the Mechanical Animals booklet. He was featured extensively in the following tour VHS (Dead To The World), and subsequently played on a large portion of Mechanical Animals, an album that both fans and critics alike widely recognise as one of Manson's most groundbreaking and esoteric releases.

It has never been publicly stated what the reasons were for Zum's departure, and he was relatively silent about the occurence in press following his departure. Very little was said on Manson's behalf about the decision, though speculatively it seems that there was some degree to which he was ushered out, as the indication that he played on "only tracks 1, 3, 5, 6, 9, 11, 12 and 14" in Mechanical Animals' liner notes is incongruous with the fact that these tracks make up the bulk of the album's 14 songs.

Since his work in Marilyn Manson Zum has performed with the name given to him by Manson, and has fronted the projects Pleistoscene and The Pop Culture Sucides, and has been noted for playing with american cult band Life, Sex & Death prior to his audition for Manson.
