Same rules apply - say the last movie you watched.

I am watching Underdog - I keep meaning to turn over the channel, but I keep forgetting its on in the background. LOL!

No way! I think it's generally accepted that Troma films are supposed to be shit, so I let that slide. The women are a bit ropey in that film though, I must say. Budget constraints!

Otherwise I watch Doctor Who series one after another every night before I fall asleep, which lead me to dreaming of being involved in the episodes.

It's not really a film but I'm watching David Lynch's "Twin Peaks" again these days. One of the greatest things to have ever been on television! Only very few shows can really make me "dive" in their world like this one.

I can understand that happening to be honest, it is one of those where you just have to sit and watch it through and be in the right frame of mind for it, given that it's about two psychotic women rattling around an old house together...

Apocalypto. I know it's not all that historically accurate and all, but I like it for the costumes, the makeup, the locations and the mindless adrenaline rush. And of course, the lead pair, both of which are hot.

Yuva, a Hindi film by Mani Ratnam. It's about student politics in Calcutta. The lives of 3 guys connected to one incident on Howrah Bridge. There's Ajay Devgan who plays a student leader who gets shot at on the bridge. There's Vivek Oberoi who plays an upper middle class kid who dreams of going to America but ends up getting involved in politics. And my favourite storyline about Abhishekh Bacchan who plays Lallan, an ambitious gangster. The best performance in the film, according to me belongs to Rani Mukherji who plays Lallan's wife. Her look, her mannerisms everything is very much like a middle class bengali housewife. Good music by A.R Rehman, too. It's a good film. Suggested if you like Bollywood, though its not a typical Bollywood film.

I couldn't find anything to watch last night so I went through some old DVDs and found the original Black Christmas. I wasn't expecting much because the remake was dumb (doesn't mean the original is, but the story was lame). Well, IT WAS SCARY. Great death scenes, story and a nice twist! I really recommend it if someone's looking for a scare.

I also watched Disturbia. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but I just don't like modern teen movies. David Morse is creepy as always and the end was intense.

Apocalypto. I know it's not all that historically accurate and all, but I like it for the costumes, the makeup, the locations and the mindless adrenaline rush. And of course, the lead pair, both of which are hot.

Monster

Charlize Theron plays the role of Aileen Wuornos with astonishing authenticity and with a true understanding of what made someone become a killer, as opposed to the tabloid lies that didn't look at the life she had led that contributed to her finally snapping.

Emma
07-14-2009, 02:26 AM
Yes, the first killing was self defence, though the court tried to wash over the fact that Wournos' first victim was a convicted rapist.

http://www.chasingthefrog.com/reelfaces/monster.php

Is there any evidence that Aileen's first murder was an act of self-defense?
Richard MalloryFor some time this remained uncertain. With nothing to support her claims, Aileen was convicted of killing Richard Mallory (right, click to enlarge) in January of 1992. In November of that year, Dateline NBC reporter Michele Gillens discovered that Richard Mallory had served 10 years for violent rape in another state. Aileen was never given a re-trial.

It seems at that point she snapped, and went on to kill 6 more clients.

I would be simply satisfied if they barred him from making any films that weren't based on video games. Such films are almost always very bad anyway, and it would at least prevent other genres being infested with his pap. And to be fair, none of the games his films are based on were any good to begin with. So I'd let him run riot making such films, providing he stopped making any non-video game films. Of course, if he dares to make a film version of Metal Gear Solid or Command and Conquer, I'll be strangling him!

Inspired by listening to the soundtrack this morning, I watched OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies again. A very amusing French spy spoof set in Egypt in the 1950s.

Two favourite lines in the film:

I just watched Public Enemies. Although predictable at times I believe it was this that kept me watching it. I mean this in a positive way... until the ending, which made me sad seeing what happened to be not what I expected (trying my best not to spoil it here).

DONT READ BELOW FOR IT HAS SPOILERS :)

I've always known John was shot outside a cinema, apparently, give or take whatever conspiracy theories you may believe etc etc (not bad-mouthing them but some are fueled by the hopefull wanting that old semi-hero to live on) - BUT I was dissapointed by my own thoughts when watching the final of the film in that if John was smart enough, and not just a romantic too, he would had known the right cinema to go to. You see the Invesitgators chasing him have two movie to pick from that he might go to, one would be a gangster flick, one was a shirley temple. Given John's fragile state of mind with his concerns for his lover held captive by the authories, he would go for some comfort perhaps in seeing a happy dandy shirley temple film. But then given his obvious gangster reputation it is more obvious to those chasing him he'd go to the other flick.

Sigh... if only... anyways... I'm rambling a bit vaguely here because my thoughts are still buzzzing back n forth over my dissapointment.

But in all, I think the film was well shot, musically beautifull. The acting was normal and in parts superb... all up I'd give it a 7.5 out of ten.

Just before the ending John has one last score to make, something that would pull through, instead he gives in to his romantic side, and tragedy occurs - outside the cinema. I would like to see his share of that score that would go through be sent to his lover he left behind.

But I'm too much of a romantic lol!

Anyways, those are my thoughts - and I just adored the way he walks into the Police office upstairs in a room called "John Dillinger (spelling?) Investigation" and scopes around - that part is action/thriller poetry.

Born To Boogie. Not what I expected, but still fucking awesome and hilarious at times.

Was this on my recommendation, I seem to recall mentioning it. It's such a sweet little film in places isn't it? I think that Bolan was deliberately going for a Fellini-inspired sort of Wonderland with the intercut sequences, and his exuberance just shines through more than any real artistic quality, but that's the charm of it for me.

The live music sections are excellent as well, it really showcases how multi-instrumental and scatty T. Rex could be at times, and I think I recall Marc having his own cardboard cut out on stage with him, which not many people could actually get away with and still look like the nicest man ever.

In the last few days, I have re-watched or seen Gangster No. 1, Snatch, Saboteur and Capturing The Friedmans.

Gangster No. 1, I hadn't seen for a good number of years, and I had forgotten how striking Paul Bettany's performance is in this film. I would go so far to say that he outdoes Malcolm MacDowell in terms of pathos, despite the fact that they are playing the same character. Saboteur was a great Hitchcockian fun, no one in Snatch outdid Brad Pitt's role, and Capturing The Friedmans was as warped as it was the last time I saw it.
