Holy junkie monkey christ! I can't believe this thread didn't exist. I searched and came up with nothing, so unless I was too cracked out to notice that in the results- here we go....

Flaunt your consumerism!

This is supposed to go on sale next week, but my comic store hooked me up with a copy early.

I think the last DVD I bought was Apocalypse Now a few months ago and on my birthday my mom bought me the David Lynch Lime Green box set. I still have DVDs that I've bought a year ago and haven't watched, so I don't buy anymore. :\

Yes, I have it on DVD. A special edition of the remake was released in 2005 and it included the original movie. It's probably one of the best gangster films ever made. Paul Muni is criminally overlooked as an actor but he did a memorable job in that movie.

My dad just got us a Bluray player (to go nicely with the HDTV set he got us as well - thus), and we're still stumped on what to get. I think I'd like Spirited Away, Edward Scissorhands, maybe Watchmen. I don't know - I never felt that dvd quality was lacking (having said that, I haven't had a real Bluray experience yet), so I might just save the Blurays for the really incredibly epic movies.

The best animated Spider-Man cartoon- The Fox one from the 90's is probably in 3rd place and the 70's cartoon is in second place. The stories were good for the 90's series, but it suffered from MASSIVE editing and censorship problems.

Hum, I took mine to the checkout and they got one from behind the store - so it was unspoilt. Maybe you could ask if they have some out back without the tag around?

I did that, the girl on the checkout was really helpful, she did go and have a look but all the ones in the store were tagged up, she brought one back which was the best out of the lot, but still the corner on the plastic window was all split and bent in from the strap, so I didn't get it.
She then fucked around on the computer, and said she could order me one in... this was when I was in Birmingham for Manson, so as nice as it was, it was useless to me because I don't live there. She suggested going to a store near me, which would be Nottingham or ordering one off the internet because they only tag them up for shops so people don't steal them so ones from online should arrive tag free.
She did her best and understood that its a collectible and not many collectors will want that in the state it was in.

It was better service than WH SMITH, one time I went in there to get Jackass season 1, I like my DVD's so I like them to be perfect, so I picked up the Dummy case off the shelf, it was all torn and bent and ripped, but its a fake case inside the sleeve, so its a Dummy case right? Wrong... she slid out the empty case and inserted the jackass case and zapped it and the rest went a little like this,
ME - "do you have another because that case is ruined?"
WH smith - "no, well most people just throw the cases away when they get home anyway"
ME - "well I don't, so I don't want it"

Seriously, people just throw dvd cases away when they get home? lol

Also The Descent 2 is somewhere in the post with that mini series, I think if it isn't here next week then I can complain to HMV because I have to leave it for so many days to see if the post turns up before making a complaint.

Yeah I find ordering things from HMV annoying - put it this way, I ordered the Descent 2 - came in 4 days, I ordered Twilight 2, it came in 6 - which is why I ordered Avatar with special delivery - it came the next day.

I picked this one of V up from the store - still the easiest way to do it. I would suggest contacting them.

Still no sign of my DVD's today. :(

I just went to ASDA and got Avatar on DVD. I hate the cover, all that blue I find off putting. Anyway I didn't see this in the cinema, was never interested in it, so I just got the DVD because I didn't want to spend 20 on the blu ray and then not like it.

It was annoying in ASDA though, the stand at the front of the store was all empty, the DVD chart section was all empty. So I thought they had sold out like they did with Harry Potter when that was released. Anyway I found some on the end of a random aisle, you would think they would restock their shelves, especially at the front of the store where every customer passes by it.

I contacted HMV about my missing DVD's. I got to go down to my post office and make sure they aren't there. Fucking hell, they are useless there, most of the time someone goes to get something and they say it isn't there and its right infront of them.
Anyway, if they aren't there then HMV will replace or refund which is great, but they need me to confirm I haven't recieved them nor the post office has them so they can get a claim from Royal Mail, and may also give the details to the police.

lol I double checked at home to make sure they hadn't come through and in a rush I hadn't misplaced them, but I don't have them.

Same here. I was shocked to find out it was one of the biggest mind fucks of all time. Great film, after I put my pride aside and finally saw it. Last film I've acquired was The Countess (2009). It was given to me. Tis about the "true" story of Elizabeth Bathory. Yet to watch it though.

I never knew this existed, but I don't really remember any special Video releases like that from when Videos were the rage, except for a video of Jurassic Park that I have in a special case, which that Alien one reminded me of, its a grey plastic case, wider and thicker than a standard case with bones raised up in it.

1984
Sweeney Todd (not my fav Burton film at all, but it was cheap)
Anne Frank (Don't know why, but I love the different tv movies they release, this one I think was shown in 2004, I only ever caught the second half shown the next day but really enjoyed it. I also enjoyed the recent one I think the BBC made either in '09 or '08, but that isn't on sale yet)
This is England (Only ever seen bits and pieces on the TV when flicking around, I think Barbarella recommended it to me and it was on sale so I go it).

Not sure what to watch first.

Paranormal Activity 2: which I have to say was okay but I think they concentrated far too much on trying to scare as opposed to building the story and the ending seemed rushed as in "oh fuck we have ten minutes left of the film, lets conclude this and show a link to the first"

Vamp: A classic cult movie from the 80's that I love. Features Grace Jones and is a comedic take in a way on the whole Vampire thing - kind of think Tarantino was partly inspired by it for From Dusk Til Dawn, and it is now out on Blu Ray with lots of lovely extras!

Buried: Finally I can watch this film without annoying cinema goers chirping over the whole film therefore destroying the tension of what is a very good film.

Death Race 2 - lots of brainless entertainment in the form of cars, fights, explosions and women. For some reason I feel like the 1st one was more spectacular cause it had a lot more racing, while this one starts with just the prisoners fighting each other.

I Spit On Your Grave (remake) - it wasn't that bad. It's been a while since I've seen the original, and maybe the impact of the original was bigger since I was much younger, but I don't feel like it was necessary to remake it since it didn't add anything to the original.

I don't really buy movies anymore but this was an awesome set for an awesome price for an even more awesome movie.

Also, I bought the Return of the Living Dead Blu-Ray Steelbook. It's Region 2 and I don't have the means to watch it. It's so pretty.

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 7 - I almost bought the blu ray but the case size would clash with the other seasons.

Leatherface:The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III - kind of a fun sequel and it was only $4. Plus, Viggo Fuckin Mortensen.

I'm aiming to own every Tenchi related Series. I don't spend a lot on anime and manga now a days... After Christmas, I should be able to buy the rest :)

The Hobbit - An Unexpected Journey
Wasn't going to buy it because there's supposed to be an extended version coming out later this year... but then it was just 10 on DVD, but then as I walked round I saw the blu ray for 15. So I ended up grabbing it on blu ray, I couldn't wait for the extended version.

Django Unchained.

Not Tarantino's best but definitely not his worst. It's his first film without the same editor he's always had, and her absence shows at a few points, but otherwise it's great. If you dig Quentin you'll dig this movie.

^ I don't have a Blu-Ray player so the only Blu-Ray discs I own so far are Transformers: Dark of the Moon and a sampler of NIN's Beside You in Time.

But I was hangin' with a pal who was housesitting for some superhippie pals of ours last week and we wanted to get baked and take advantage of their Blu-Ray player and their SWEET 6 ft. wide HDTV...except all THEY had on their one shelf of movies was a bunch of Further Festival crap we didn't care about.

So since my discs were a couple hours away and Best Buy was practically right down the street, I volunteered to go buy a Blu-Ray (since I always forget RedBox exists, lol). Anyway, I was going to buy Manson's Live in L.A. since it's a great show and I wanted to have it and support them regardless of whether or not I ever get my own player for it (plus my pal's a fan, too), but Best Buy didn't have 'em in stock anymore.

Then we noticed the stand for Django Unchained and got REALLY excited since I'd been busy either raising money to chase Manson or just actually chasing Manson on tour pretty much the entire time it was in theaters. I'm a HUGE Tarantino fan and it was breaking my heart to miss it but, y'know...first things first! Unfortunately, it was just a stand for the pre-orders since it wasn't actually out yet. To this day, all I've ever seen of Django Unchained is about an hour's worth of random clips Manson showed us on his tour bus, lol. Needless to say, I was a bit...distracted.

So I browsed a bit more before stumbling upon a DVD/Blu-Ray combo-pack of RoboCop.

Fucking SOLD!!!

\o/

Also, I was very pleasantly surprised to find that although both discs were labeled as being the Rated R cut from the original, theatrical release, the Blu-Ray disc was actually the UNRATED extended version. WIN!!!

So anyway, if anyone's interested (and you TOTALLY should be, ffs!), Best Buy is currently carrying a DVD/Blu-Ray combo-pack of RoboCop, one of the GREATEST movies EVER made, with BOTH edits of the movie for the low, low price of just $13.95.

HIGHLY fucking recommended.

^ In the UK we get quite a few Blu Ray / DVD / Digital combo pack's and I buy them because I can have the choice of both, even if I mostly watch the blu ray I may want to watch the DVD somewhere, and they're usually the same price as the standard Blu Ray, or 1 or 2 pounds more than the DVD on its own.

I've been building up a Blu Ray collection lately, in where I order a new one from Amazon every week as something to enjoy on my weekend. Recently, I've gotten a hold of Watchmen. I've never seen the movie nor read the graphic novel before, but have been meaning to check it out for years. Well I watched it this morning and I've gotta say... this is easily one of my favorite movies of all time.

I've seen complaints of the movie being too long, or didn't have enough action for a superhero movie, and this/that/the other thing. Shit, I felt I could have watched it for at least another three hours if needed; I was so far into it. The plot of the story was incredibly rich, and there was plenty of action, violence, romance, sci-fi, mystery, intellect, and anarchy to culminate into such a perfect storm of a story for me. Additionally, I haven't heard a more fittingly rocking soundtrack in who knows how long? The way it was directed and the visuals matched the feel of the story in a way I hadn't imagined achievable in cinema. Christopher Nolan's Batman shouldn't be considered even in the same league as this (or even allowed on the same field).

Simply stated, I loved this fucking movie and I hardly ever get excited about stuff like this. What a ride.

I also really enjoyed the film, but have got to say, if you loved it for all of those reasons, please read the graphic novel because it has all of those things even further fleshed out. Well worth your time if you were that into the movie.

Also, the man that directed that did the new Superman film, so fingers crossed.

Finally purchased a favorite of mine- The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. Every shot in this film is a work of art, it's easily the most visually nuanced film I can name off of the top of my head.
