I was at the show tonight, it was bad ass. My friend and I were three people from the rail, directly between Manson and Twiggy. It was amazing. Seeing that curtain drop and seeing Twiggy fucking Ramirez, Marilyn fucking Manson, and Ginger fucking Fish? Breathtaking.

We were in the pit until Running To The Edge Of The World, then we went up to the beverage place. And we met (and took pictures with) the bassist, guitarist, and vocalist (SEXY) of the opening band, September Mourning.

It was a gay 'ole time.

How did Running... sound? I like that song, it's pretty. This reads like a really nice set, compact, but varied.

I thought it was a great show, although I didn't really like how he had that guy and girl standing next to him a couple of times during, I thought that was an odd decision.
Other than that though, it was a great performance he seemed to be in a good mood!
I loved the decision to play RTTEOTW, one of my favorite songs off the album, and it sounded beautiful live.
I took pictures on my iPhone so I don't have anything that's super high quality, but I'll post the best ones here in a bit. I also took video but I doubt the sound turned out that great...

Can you tell us more about this? Was it like the makeup people he had at a few shows?

Also, I'll be excited to see the pictures you have.

I haven't watched anything from previous shows so I can't really say. Mostly during WOW he reappeared with a man standing next to him with a spotlight shining on his face, and girl holding a stack of signs for him that had "wow" written on them. I thought it was a weird part of the show because neither of these individuals were really dressed up like they were going to be on stage, I think the guy was just wearing jeans, and the girl looked like she was wearing blue underwear and a white t shirt. This is only my 2nd show but I've watched a lot of videos of past performances and the theatrics were definitely toned down, although again I'm not sure if that was just Reno or this tour in general. Seemed awkward for them to just be standing there in fairly normal clothes. Eh, might've been a point there I completely missed though. Just my 2 cents

As for pictures, I'll upload them in a bit :)

Ah I see. I think they are supposed to be a part of the whole "acting baby" concept of The High End of Low. The test cards have been discussed in the "Visual Parallels" thread in Evidence, it might fill things in for you to have a read of that, no worries if not though.

I think it's also a reaction to all that commentary from "fans" at the start of the year that he was past it or whatever. I think he enjoys the irony of being like "well if you say Manson's fucked up, then Manson must be fucked up". If people think he can't remember the words to his songs and needs to helped out by stage hands, then part of the act or theatrics is to have them there as part of the performance.

September Mourning. I thought they were bad ass lol. No life changing music or anything, but not bad. And I met the lead singer, bassist, and guitarist. The guys seemed kinda lame, but the chick was pretty cool.

I decided not to take many pictures of the show, because I was in the pit rocking the fuck out most of the time, and it's kind of hard to take pictures at a time like that. Anyone there see me friend and I? We were the ones dressed in skirts lol.

Wow, this seems like such an intimate performance, and I like the short guitar changes that Twiggy makes during the second half of the song. Rudy Coby was right, I don't think I want to imagine a Marilyn Manson record without Twiggy playing on it in future, this musical combination is perfect.

Having the song taken out of context of the record highlights certain parts of it as well, makes me pay more attention.

Beautiful, thank you.

Man I've been swamped this weekend - first time I got to check out this thread. I'm really glad to see Running added into the setlist, I think it's an overall stronger song and I'm all for Manson stretching out those melodic vocals. I can't make out the audio that well, but I like the subtle differences I hear for the live version. I just hope they keep it on the set until they get to SLC this weekend.

You should be grateful that they are willing to spend time editing video and uploading it to youtube.

Anyway, Manson could of wanted it to be edited in this way, it probably makes it sound better, and I'm not saying that alone it sounds bad, because I have seen the other live videos recorded by the fans and it sounds pretty good, but they probably did it to enhance the audio quality of it.

Listen to the second verse, you'll clearly hear another vocal voice, and it's not delay from it being live or anything. It's an actual recorded voice, mixed quietly. Also, you'll hear it in the drums around the 2nd verse and chorus. They'll have a slight echo (slap back). The recorded drums fade out though by the end so all you hear when it ends is just the live version.

I'm listening in headphones though, so you might try that if you don't hear it.

AlcoholicArtist
09-01-2009, 10:25 AM

Sure its not Twiggy you're hearing as the "other vocal voice"?

Cringeon
09-01-2009, 11:30 AM
Yeah, it's Manson's voice - although you do get to hear Twiggy's backup vocals better in this version. I think they blended in the original one for parts where Manson's vocals weren't really performed well live. Like I said, you can also hear it in the drums where the live drum hits don't match up "exactly" with the studio take.

camets (6 hours Ago)
the audio is from the microphones recorded simultaneously when I filmed the performance. the stage is too loud for the camera mic results in a distorted mess. so i blend the two. yes, it's mm's voice from the concert. no cd track is present. it's all mm. live. now get off your ass? and come to a show.

(from RTTEOTW vid)

Cringeon
09-02-2009, 08:03 AM
He lies LOL. You can clearly hear the two tracks. If it were all live, it would just sound like a slight delay, but you actually can hear where the live version is slightly off pitch from the recorded version. Not that I care, but he could have come up with something better.

Guess I'll see how this song goes over live on Saturday haha.
