American Idol Winner Covers The Beautiful People

Back before he won "American Idol" -- Lee DeWyze flirted with the dark side ... in fact, dude covered a song by Marilyn Manson.

DeWyze's old record label has just released Lee's rendition of Manson's hit "Beautiful People" -- roughly one year after Lee recorded it back in Chicago.

While the cover ain't half bad -- we're told the song never made the cut on any of Lee's old albums.

Many thanks Jakob, shame on me for expecting the worst and then on listening found it's one of the best renditions of BP I've heard - he's made it his own which is something all the best covers do by taking the anger out of it and putting that bit more reflective-ness in it's place.

American Idol has done itself well recently in my eyes. Alice Cooper's appearance on it last week was awesome.

He almost sounds like Dave Matthew's or something, but it's not a bad cover at all. Just a very odd song to perform in this style, but hell if I heard this in a bar or something I would totally rock it.

Actually, this isn't bad. I think the other contestant, Crystal, should have won American Idol this season, but that's just my opinion; Lee did have a very good voice as well.

I can't decide whether I like it or not. It's nice he made a ballad out of it but it doesn't sweep me off my feet.
