but nobody came.
After a few hours the cake started to collect flies and eventually melted. It was an ice cream cake. It's my fave and it's the only kind of cake I can eat.
The chairs surrounding the dining table looked so still. Dead chairs with no bodies to warm them up. The stillness made me pop all the balloons. They hung over the dead chairs like wilted flowers, waiting for a sign of life to revitalize their happiness. Even a random hint of laughter could have brought them back to life but that didn't happen.
I needed noise to destroy the silence before it consumed me. This is why I burst the balloons and this is why I screamed into the cake after I buried my face into it.
