Hey,
I was thinking to make a thread about those who attended the Marilyn Manson In-Store Signing at HMV in Oxford Circus in 2009. I remember being too star struck to speak with Twiggy or Manson, I only had handshakes with them and I got my album cover signed by both of them, which was really brief. I was queing outside to get my wristband since around 6:45 a.m and I didn't get any sleep the night before, like this I could leave home early to get the tube to Oxford Circus. I remember when the security marked my hand with a pen, I was 95th in the queue (first 100 in the queue)! Does anyone here who attended the signing want to share their experiences that day?

That was a great day, it was amazing seeing how many people were hysterical after meeting Manson -which I'm sure is not unusual for any MM signing .... but from where we were waiting at the HMV store in London, we had a good close view of Twiggy and MM and would often see people in complete pieces, blubbering from excitement after a 10 second encounter. Provided rather good entertainment, but their loss of control was justified ... it's understandably very exciting to meet them.

I'd refrained from buying THEOL until this signing (about a week after it's release) as I wasn't sure if you had to purchase the album from the store itself - turned out you didn't, but I was glad to have waited as my first listen was over the HMV sound system - they started playing it on a loop the moment that Manson appeared. Great to have first heard Devour with a bunch of other fans and in MM's presence. The rest of the album that day was a blur, myself too wrapped up in all that was going on to have really appreciated the songs at that point.

What I remember well was the organisers / security that took care of dishing out the wristbands in the morning and the organisation of the lines in the evening - their rather snide / witty remarks were constant throughout. They must have done this a hundred times but you could tell they were humoured by MM's appearance and the kind of people that turned up to meet him. I remember them shouting us a briefing in the morning about how it was going to work, then asked if we had any problems before casually adding 'you've all got problems, you're here to see Marilyn Manson'.

The meeting itself was short, as expected, but you made sure to soak up every second and it was worth the whole day's effort for the minute you get to be face to face with them. Making sure to shake their hand, telling Twiggy how good it was to see him back with Manson and then - with Manson himself, I brought along a good picture of his appearance with Alice Cooper the year before onstage in Romania for him to sign. Being an equally big fan of both, it was the most appropriate thing I could bring - especially if I can get Alice to sign it too someday.

Upon giving it to Manson, he looked at it a good while and with a pleasant recollection mentioned he has this photo and then spontaneously drew a large heart-shaped glasses logo between him and Alice as well as signing it with the usual double M which I thought was a particularly nice gesture - this sparked Twiggy's interest and Manson told him about the duet (of course, Twiggy was out of the band at that time and didn't know about the collaboration).

The kind of reaction MM got throughout that signing was immense - and brought out a diverse crowd of fans. Some run of the mill nerds like myself and others some really bizarrely dressed people. Very cool. MM himself throughout was very personable - rather pissed too I suspect, and gave fans more time than security wanted.

I did travel alone, and was glad to meet up with Rxcore and others from this board during the day which was brilliant and were all good company through the long wait in the store (about 2 1/2 hours). Looking forward to another meetup this coming Saturday.

Yeah, a brilliant day and good memories of first impressions of THEOL. :)

ah nice. I remember them playing pretty as a swastika and the dope show, whilst waiting in the store to meet him. besides, if you noticed a guy on the screen during the signing, wearing a MM Lest We Forget hoodie, that was me! I think that was whilst they played I want to kill you like they do in the movies, in the store?

It was great, I made some pretty fun remarks about the Phant and how Manson had "taken them out" to which Manson and I had a little chuckle and he called Steve Mac over to join the tomfoolery.

It was great getting a few of us together for this.

glad you got to speak to him. as soon as I went up to Manson he was smiling saying hi, then I said hey and had a handshake. Afterwards, I hardly spoke to him because I was too speechless and after signing my album booklet, he stared at me and that was it????

I just want everyone to know that if we were using a thread tagging system on this forum, I would have put "HIV Signing" on this topic.

Do you mean "You Killed Art"? I would fucking love to have thread tags, because they gave me hours of joy. There's too many obvious associations though, and the worry people might abuse them again.

Oh, nono. this is not art, man. It was next to You Killed Art. All over on Winslow's threads, poor little Calculus. I am not being mean to him, but those were funny as hell.

But yes, people would abuse them. However, I don't feel like we have so many potential trolls as we once did? I don't know. This place feels less tense. There's a smaller chance for people to abuse the system :)

I remember whenever he'd make a topic about how some girl left him in 2009, someone would tag it up with "Unruly Girlfriends". I don't remember "This Is Not Art", though the other one was on all his photography topics as well, he took it like a champ. I understand why people miss some of the things that were popular on The 'Phant, but for the most part it's best left how it is. It is generally a more relaxed atmosphere here though, which is a positive thing.

I miss the tags too. Isn't it possible that you could add them in, but make them visible/ usable by admins only? That way you could sit and chuckle for hours on end, getting up to all sorts of mischief without involving anyone else or it getting out of hand. I just want what's best for you.

Not to derail things too much, but there was a tag that always popped up... I can't remember what it was, it was two nonsensical words that were literally tagged in EVERY thread. Does anyone remember what they were? and, after all this time, is someone able to explain it to me??

Nono, sorry, neither are right. It was two entirely nonsensical words that sounded like a scientific name for something, though was likely entirely made up. If I mentioned GWAR frontman Oderus Urungus, that would be indicative of how the words sounded... I'd always kind of assumed it was either Shangs or someone like gofuckoff doing it, tbh. Seemed like their kinda thing.

That was three words - 'Crotchless Wheel Chairs?' - punctuated with a question mark. It was taken directly from Everyone Will Suffer Now:-
"We started deciding, what is the next level? Cutting our faces off? Extreme teenage sleepover? Crotchless wheel chairs? I don't know what the next level is, but depravity and offensiveness is definitely going to be our post-it note of things to do on this tour."
Marilyn Manson
The reason I'm so sure about that is because it was me that put it on as many topics as possible, where an opportunity arose. That's the sort of cool person I am. It remains one of my favourite Manson quotes to this day.
