I noticed that they have the same logo on the 2012 banner as the on the drums. I'm curious why they are not the same as the website's logos. Is Manson going to have a different drum kit and banners for the US tour dates? Are they working on a whole set of props and matching stage gear for the Hey Cruel World Tour? I guess we will all find out soon enough. If they keep this banner instead of the websites logo seems kind of odd don't you think. Since the recent Twitter post about the new logo happened it makes me think they are preparing for all new banners once the album drops. What are your thoughts on this?

:D

I think we will probably see a mix, it's not the first time Manson has had a couple of logo's being used at the same time. For example the red fang/blood dripping MM used for EAT ME, DRINK ME was used on stage for the Rape of the World tour and on merchandise, but also the Spiral Heart was also used on the drum kit and merchandise as well.

For The High End of Low they had the banners featuring the ($) logo similar to ACSS shock logo, but then also that dollar swastika logo appeared on stage, and was also used on merchandise.

So it's really no different, it wouldn't suprise me if we saw both the MM ‡ logo appearing on merch (I think it's already on a hoodie along with the new Marilyn Manson that was posted on Facebook/Twitter), and I wouldn't be surprised if we saw the MMMM from the website being used on other things.

So, the point is what? Why have so many different logos?

They liked them all and couldn't decide on just one maybe. I really have no idea.

I like the one on the website that goes with Steve's Marilyn Manson logo a lot. Not so much the one used on stage, it's kinda simple, something I'd randomly draw on my school books.

So, the point is what? Why have so many different logos?

No reason.

In response though, Marilyn Manson has always been represented by a variety of logos for each album, or stage of what he does.

Think about albums like Antichrist Superstar and Mechanical Animals. Antichrist... had two varying fonts, the script in lower-case, and the bold in upper-case. They both said 'Marilyn Manson', and we identify with them both in relation to the record, but they're not the same.
The typography of the 'Omega' side to Mechanical Animals is not the same as the front cover 'Marilyn Manson'. Each of the Tryptich's albums saw Manson represented by a symbol as well as his name. Whether that was Mercury, or Omega, or the Shock Insignia, it's all about different ways of saying 'Marilyn Manson'. Think about some of these examples over the years, when you look for the right patterns it all starts to join up:-

For The Golden Age Of Grotesque he was a death's head rodent (Mickey Mouse), a diamond double-M, a music hall Marilyn Manson, all part of the same thing.
EAT ME, DRINK ME saw him as streaks of blood, or a child-like Alice In Wonderland scrawl, or a spiral heart. On The High End Of Low his name devoured itself by incorporating the letters 'MAN' in two different names, the album was also personified by a film reel, and the Dollar symbol (which itself was transformed into a Swastika on the tour).

For Born Villain we've seen varying typographies for the name Marilyn Manson, the symbology of MM in relation to I-Ching, and the record title itself. Now there is a new incorporation of the Doublecross, which has only previously been hinted at in album artwork, now we see it as a fully syncretised aspect of Manson's own initials.

Altogether, much with the 'MM' he signs a painting with, or the recurrence of 15, it's all about self-mythologising, he's inked the MMMM onto himself forever, perhaps indicating that he makes himself, he's the parent to a 'Born Villain' - "Whatever doesn't kill you is gonna leave a scar".

Well, I'm just going to keep tabs on the progression of the logos through out the tour and album. Just for the heck of it.

Here is the the newest logo, used for the tour!

I think this is an appropriate Thread to have now, while the promotion for Born Villain is still young. This certainly isn't something new for Manson to do, but that doesn't make it any less novel (for this fan, anyhow). The iChing is fascinating, but I have yet to actually analyze or look into it further than the fact that I have heard one of the iChing in his name is that of the peacock/phoenix.

The MMMM symbol was designed by Nick Kushner and it is a reference to how Manson is perceived in today's world. Manson was so fond of it that he even had it tattooed on his chest. Born Villain is an era about Manson's identity - something which he has been struggling to understand since Lest We Forget. In fact, most of the album artwork shows just him with minimal add-ons.

As the vampire MM fangs complimented the Twisted Heart, so did the MAN-oriented name logo in The High End of Low compliment the ($). But there have always been multiple symbols used in his eras, and they are not all distinctively exclusive to one part of his career. We still see the presence of a defaulted art movement's symbol, the Celebritarian Cross/ Cross of Lorraine, as well as the number 15 or shock symbol.

It's not all as organized as fans would like it to be.
