I am so in love with this film - plot and expressionist aesthetic. I feel like every single frame is a complete work of art.
I also love the incorporation of the olde time fairs/carnivals. I always found them equally fascinating and creepy; very phantom of the opera-esque.
And I know it's predictable but I also love the incorporation of the asylum. In my opinion that always adds to a horror film.
The entire film reminds me a bit of the Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus.

Also, does anyone think there is any historical/political reason why they chose the Caligari character to be Italian, instead of German?
