Any other fans of the show? I searched and didn't find a thread.... so I thought I would start one :D The new season just started! I JUST finished the new episodes, AWESOME! It starts out like the last two, Equestria is in trouble and Celestia needs Twilight's help, etc.... but it was REALLY good. It got better, so happy lol

Favorite episode? Favorite song? FAVORITE PONY ?! My favorite is Pinkie Pie! :)

I'm not going to lie, I was never a fan of My Little Pony. I never liked that style, and I was never a little girl who was into horses. I don't know, I never got any of those dolls and they never appealed to me. I love this series, though. I just love Lauren Faust lol It's so cute.*^__^*

I've never watched it, but I know people that do.

Bronies are weird. I'll never understand. It blows my mind that full grown men are obsessed with this show and get off on cartoon ponies.

I don't think I've met any like... hard core bronies in real life haha. I know it sounds weird, grown men watching a show meant for little girls... It really is a good cartoon, though XD

The "getting off on cartoon ponies" part, I agree 100% with you, that is just.... :S but knowing that kind of stuff is available for almost every popular cartoon ranging from the powerpuff girls to the simpsons to.... hell I think I saw some catdog art like that...it doesn't make it very surprising.

I'm not sure how exactly his particular show got so big on the internet, both in a positive and negative way. I wouldn't watch it, though there are plently of cartoons I'd still enjoy. There's this brony stigma nowadays, and I can definitely see why if you look at some of the more amusing examples of MLP fans. That being said, I'm sure the cute thing is appealing to some folks, and yeah if you're normal otherwise that's fine if you like the show. The more vocal or noticeable fans really give the fanbase a bad look though. All in all if I had a daughter and she watched it, I would probably think it's cute too I guess. But I wouldn't check it out myself (:

Pinkie Pie is simply hilarious. She's so random, you really have to watch and listen carefully to what she says/does in order to make any sense of it. I don't have a favorite, but Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie are up there.

I got sucked into MLP: FiM because of an art piece I saw on deviantART. It was a piece with Firefly and Melody, which happen to be the first two ponies my sister and I got when we were little. It escalated from there. I probably had about 15 ponies along with the pink castle and other small accessories.

As for this generation . . . I think it's well done. The animation is so smooth, it's colourful, it's got a slight bit of adult humor once in a while and the characters are extremely different from each other, even the secondary and background characters.
Bronies are a force that will never be truly understood. I'd consider myself a very light-weight brony. I like looking at the art that generated (by individuals) from this: paintings, drawings, cartoons, stories. It's another theme that people can manipulate into what they want it to be (per example of AssetReign's post, Manson pony), and I think that's a good thing. It gets people to imagine different things, even if it's just a little bit.

If anyone is interested in getting a sugar overload, here are all the episodes (no commercials) . . . http://mlp-fim.com/1

MLP fans are called Bronies? For realz? I have a bunch of the original toys at my parents' house which I intend to sell on eBay soonish.

I thought it was interesting/odd that Andrew W.K. was a speaker at this year's Ohio MLP convention.

I don't personally watch the show (although I did make an attempt), but the "bronies" and adult female fans that I know say they don't care about the subject matter as much as the writing, which they claim is intelligent and somewhat subversive on a level that will go over kids' heads. I watched one episode and didn't quite see it, but I do know that it's becoming more common for these series to be written on two different levels, one for children and one for adults.

One example that I can get behind is Adventure Time with Finn and Jake which has all sorts of fridge horror moments. For example, the moment you realize that the series is set in a post-apocalyptic future and that the historic "Mushroom Wars" is a reference to the shape of the clouds from nuclear detonations.

So perhaps the MLP craze is a similar case of a kiddie cartoon series simply being much better in quality and more intelligent than it should be and has little to do with equine fetishes.

If you like the show, cool. Good for you. I may think it's kind of weird and I may find hardcore "bronies" incredibly disturbing but whatever. I have nothing against anyone for enjoying a particular television show. But please don't try to make it seem like it's anything but a cartoon made for little girls.

Then again, I think adults who go apeshit over Pokemon are bordering on the same fucking weirdness. Like what you like... I don't know...

Have you watched the show?!?

It's unquestionably aimed at an audience not specifically limited to young girls...while that's obviously the show's focus it has a LOT of sly winks and nods and more sophisticated elements aimed at an older viewership which would sail RIGHT over the heads of some 5 year olds who just want to see their pretty toy ponies come to life on TV.

It's on the Hub, the same network responsible for "G.I. Joe: Renegades" and "Transformers: Prime" which are in pretty much the same double-audience appeal market. Namely, those shows are simultaneously catering to a younger crowd of new fans while ALSO employing darker and more sophisticated storylines with immensely higher quality production values to help rope in the fans of their respective franchises' ORIGINAL iterations, specifically those from the 80s...just like My Little Pony.

Those old school fans are generally in their mid- to late-30s, btw. You know. Adults.

So it's a kiddie show, yeah. But it's for adults, too.

This isn't rocket science.

So loosen up and give it a shot if you're man enough! You might just have some fun and enjoy yourself.

Here, have a drink of *ahem* CIDER and try to relax a little.

BOTTOMS UP, FRIEND!!!

Since the people who make the show know how popular it is among.... non little girls LOL I think it would be safe to assume they put stuff in for us too :) Whenever Lauren Faust makes a new journal on Deviantart, she usually mentions how excited she is that it's so popular with different age groups lol

About liking Pokemon, this show and other cartoons aimed at children primarily, sometimes the cartoons make for adults like Family guy and South Park.... it just.... I would get tired if that is the only type of cartoon I could watch being my age:/ It get repetitive really fast (I think the only adult aimed cartoon I have not needed a break from is King of the Hill) and even with the children's shows, they are interesting and funny, just because they don't have too many "adult" elements, I don't think it's something to be ashamed of or look down upon someone, especially if the person is a responsible adult ^_^

I don't think I can ever like this whole "friendship is magic" thing because of how much I love[d] the original My Little Pony and then My Little Pony Tales. I have never seen an episode of this new generation MLP crap, but it looks like a really bad acid trip when compared with the original series. Can anyone tell me if the characters are the same? Did they at least preserve the characterization, or is this essentially an entirely different cartoon now, and the only thing it has in common with the original is that it involves talking ponies?
I'm also incredibly bitter that none of the toy stores sell original MLP toys and figures anymore because they have to sell these weird looking other pony things now. Maybe I will actually watch an episode because I'm really curious to see what's going on with the "MLP" name, as the original series were definitely just for kids.

Really it's just another show aimed at eight year old girls, filled with things that little girls like. Such as references to the Big Lebowski, which of course is a rather obvious thing to do since ALL eight year old girls go apeshit over the Coen Bros.

For those that don't know, there's been a relatively recent phenomenon to resurrect the MLP franchise mainly instigated by anime fans called "bronies". It would seem embarrassing as an adult but clearly these are adults still living at home so they don't care.

One of my friends just posted a picture of their youngest daughter's most recent drawing of Rainbow Dash today.

That's her neck protruding upwards with her "head" at the top and with her flowing rainbow mane, lol:

I actually have watched some of it, all of season one and most of season two a couple of months ago, but then as always I got distracted by something else and stopped watching it. Must look at the rest of it. All I'll say is don't knock it until you try it. I was extremely skeptical myself going into it but I wanted to see what the hell people were watching that made them go so crazy for it. It took me a few episodes to get into it but it is rather fun to watch and yes although it's aimed mainly at kids on the surface there are plenty of shout outs to the adults watching, case in point the Lebowski reference that someone already mentioned here. Don't let the fact that they're ponies with ridiculous names put you off. It's not groundbreaking or anything but it's just a bit of a laugh.

And for those who do watch Pinkie Pie is my favourite :D

Yea, the real Bronie community put that plushie down very quickly. Some sicko decided to make that for no real reason other than to make (sick) fun of one of the background ponies.
If you think that that is what Bronies are like, you are looking in the wrong place.

I've seen that plushie! I thought it was kind of funny, tbh haha :)

I think my favorite episode so far this season is the one focused on Scootaloo. She, Rarity, Apple Bloom and Rainbow Dash go camping. It's so cute!

The latest episode was cute, I do like Spike but he can be frustrating sometimes lol but he is a baby, and he's learning... :)

My favourite was the Trixie episode, I'm not even one of those bronies who love Trixie, I just thought that episode was fantastic (probably my favourite of any series apart from the 2 episode specials). I also really liked the recent Discord episode, but that might be because I was happy to see Fluttershy being the focus again.

The latest episode was pretty average really, I think Spike is really funny, particularly his sarcasm such as the winter wrap up episode.

I torrented the first season about a year ago just to glance at it and see what all the hubbub was about and I ended up watching the whole damn thing in a couple of days. It's pretty entertaining. There are some good genuine laughs that for me come primarily from the characters' stylized reactions and delivery. I've never been a huge fan of Flash animation (or digital paper dolls, as I used to think of it), but here it's handled with such relative finesse and attention to detail that my brain's hate mechanism nearly shuts down while watching it. In the hands of lesser animators working with lesser resources I feel this show would be nothing special; the style and execution are really what kept bringing me back. (Maybe my dislike of Flash shows just kept me underexposed; this could be the norm for all I know, which I don't.) The show does lapse into moments of forcible cuteness that I find off-putting in spots, but overall that stuff is subdued enough to where it rarely becomes distracting and grating. I do find that I dislike Twilight Sparkle a great deal; she's such a squeaky clean upbeat goody-goody that anytime she speaks it reminds me of how awful this show could actually be. Thank god for the others.

I followed it into the second season up until about the middle and then just kind of lost track and abandoned it. It wasn't getting bad, I think I just got over it.

I appreciate aspects of the brony movement for some of the things it's produced, but on the whole I find some of the louder enthusiasm obnoxious. It's good. It's not THE BEST THING EVAR - a lot of that just seems like bandwagon meme shit adopted by people eager to appear zany/creepy. But the show by itself now feels like only the heart of the monster it's produced, and for me that's been the most amusing and in some ways valuable part of it: its casual perversion and darkening. if not for adults watching the show we wouldn't have gotten things like this:

...And that would just be sad.

I think this show is cute. My friend told me about it and got me to watch it with her from the first episode to the latest. So I would say I'm a bit hooked and can't wait for the next season to come out. Just hope it will be better than the latest season, it was the worst so far I think, except for some episodes. My favourite pony is Fluttershy. She also reminds me a lot of myself: my element is strongly air, I love animals so much and get along with them much better than with humans, and I'm also quite shy and timid. It felt so funny when I started to watch this show, and noticed that she's just like me! My friend again is a mix of Twilight Sparkle and Rarity. One day at the toystore we found that there were sold these cheap little surprise ponies, which you never know what you will get (there were about 25 different ones) and we just had to get ones for ourselves, hoping to get our favourites. I got Fluttershy and my friend got Rarity, naturally.

On another mm Bbs I used to frequent, there was an odd woman who loved and just BREATHED my little pony. She was, at the time, in her 20's. She repeatedly made signatures and avatars with an ever changing cast of mlp's.

But an email pal repurposes used ponies and makes them into works of art; she had sent me a Manson version for Xmas a number of years ago.

"two different levels, one for children and one for adults."

I love Bulwinkle for this reason; it's very political as was the comic strip, 'pogo' , back in the day.

I can see that there are significant differences, style wize, between the original mlp and the current anime version. Not a fan of most anime especially, tho I do like the 60's stuff. Wondering why anime artists portray Occidentals with having such outsized and round eyes. That's fucking weird, sorry.

Haze: lol, only way I could handle watching that was because of its musical score. Good call!
