Looks like its going to be a blast! There's so much stuff, we had to cut more holes in the ceiling to hang it. It's going to be a full production Friday night. I hear we even had to add more room to the stage for stuff. More set up pictures coming soon.

Someone on Twitter said Twiggy wasn't at this M+G.

Can't see any Tweets about the show starting yet, just some about half an hour ago saying they're waiting... will be keeping an eye out for details on there.

Like in Europe, the meet and greets are pre-show, so I'm guessing Twiggy is busy with the soundcheck etc.

The show should have started already, Butcher Babies were supposed to start at 8, Manson will be on at 9.

The setlist itself isn't bad, I really enjoyed it during the Twins of Evil tour, it's a perfect mix between hits, covers, new songs and shit that just works live really well. Considering that he's already toured the states twice with basically the same set is disappointing though. This would have been THE chance to prove how relevant Born Villain is how strong the songs really are. Maybe he'll add more songs during the tour like in 2009 when Wight Spider, Blank and White and IWTKYLTDITM randomly popped up.

Stage set up is still awesome, it would have been a waste to not use it again. Also, all the reactions were positive so far, so it looks like just another bunch of great shows for you lucky Americans.

I'm pretty sure we are past the point where anyone should be defending the set list because that is just blatant ass licking. It's awful, pathetic and uninspiring but we're also past point where we should be complaining about it. It's awful, it's been awful for a year now and it isn't going to change so I'd suggest either bitching about something else or being content with the shitty set list that will never, ever change. Ever.

01-19-2013, 03:30 AM
People might say this is an awesome setlist and I was at one of the shows with this same setlist, and it was awesome... but once you, as the artist, say this tour is gonna kick some ass, you expect something more... It's a shame MM has always said the same thing about his next tour without some dramatic changes happening in his next (leg) tour...

Charles2012
01-19-2013, 04:21 AM
The same setlist thing could be due to the supposed DVD that they're recording.
But then again, when they recorded GGG live DVD, they still had the odd random song in there every now and then.

Other than to cure the repetition of performing the same show night after night, I can't why Manson would feel the need to change the setlist? The tour is obviously doing well, given it's length of time on the road and I doubt the majority of people who attend have seen the show before. So ... If the setlist was to change more, the majority of the crowd wouldn't know.

Plus, looking at the recent 'how does it feel to be one of the beautiful people' video compilation, each show is pretty unique in it's delivery even around a setlist that has basically stayed the same. It's not a stifled, 'choreographed to the t' affair.

PLUS, surely ... a concert is worth more than it's setlist. Right?

thousand_kisses
01-19-2013, 06:57 AM
considering the vast catalogue of music manson has under his belt, i guess i just don't get why he only plays for an hour and offers up the same stale "greatest hits" set list. sure they're great songs and all, for the most part (could do w/o "Personal Jesus") but it still gets old hearing the same shit over and over and over again. i just don't get it....

Exactly. Not good for business, not good for entertainment and I can't see how it would be good for his mental health. The torture methods in Guantanamo Bay spring to mind.

It's now not even good for the casual Manson listener because even if they had a BLAST the first time, they are coming back to get exactly the same thing. An hour for a headlining act is not only lazy but unheard of... I really can't wait for this Born Villain thing to wrap up and a new album/tour is done in a year or two because I felt the effort behind everything was pretty lackluster aside from a few special moments.

Unless there is some type of setlist change in the next couple dates I won't go. I love Manson but saw the same tour In Dallas. I even asked him "why have you never played Target Audience?" he responded with "we didn't have enough time" I think he thought I was asking about that night. I would love to see a tour with new songs we have never seen live. By the way why doesn't he do anything off EMDM and High end of low?

I can't quite comment on the business side of things with any point of expertise or experience ... but I can't see why venues would host his concert if it wasn't good for business. What would their incentive be otherwise?

Other than that, whether or not is good entertainment is always up for debate. Every Manson concert has had a lot of aggressively positive and negative reviews and I'm sure what's why he's well known as being controversial. The only thing i can say with 100% certainty is that I've always had a blast at every concert I've been to of his, so I'd go again given the opportunity.

honestly, would I of liked to see a differnet song or two in the set, yes i would. But it's not so stop bitching . if it wasn't the setlist someone would say he was fuc#ed up and complain about that or complain about his voice. Enjoy that he's still touring, healthy and putting on a kick ass MM show. This is the best they've been as a band in years so enjoy it.

True words but you are ignoring the fact that at times (not always) they are legitimate complaints.

I'm not ignoring.. I said myself, I'd like to see a change in a few songs.. absolutley . However, right now the set is the same, so instead of elaborating on somethign over and over again that we have NO control over, just simply try and put it past and enjoy what we have. That's all. :)

Marilyn Manson's shtick tired, performance strong in too-short show (http://www.jsonline.com/entertainment/musicandnightlife/marilyn-mansons-schtick-tired-performance-strong-in-tooshort-show-008des6-187564561.html)

The ghoulish makeup, freaky costumes and grandiose theatricality that made Marilyn Manson such an edgy novelty in the '90s, are, in 2013, mere obligations. At least that's how they came across Friday night at a near-capacity Eagles Ballroom for the first night of Manson's 2013 U.S. tour.

There was one single visual display in Manson's show that was dramatically inspired - the sight of the shock rocker standing at a microphone under a spotlight, as what looked like snow gently landed atop a black, wide-brim hat as he performed "Coma White." But beyond that, the visual signatures were unimaginative, and often cheap. Manson looked unintentionally silly dressed like an archbishop, blasting what looked like a fire extinguisher into the crowd, during "The Love Song." A later outfit was even goofier - a Goth variation of the cop get-up from the Village People - worn without irony during the crowd-pleasing climax "The Beautiful People."

Before Manson's cover of "Personal Jesus," there was an underwhelming release of six little balloons that took a speedy journey up to the ceiling of the ballroom. And for "mOBSCENE," Manson utilized a low-tech digital sign, the kind you'd find at a school or gas station; it spelled out "REAP" and "RPAE" (I was waiting for "PEAR") in between archaic little animations.

The visuals weren't the only way Manson appeared to cut corners Friday night: He played a scant 66 minutes, an absolutely unacceptable running time for a headliner with eight full-length albums to his name.

Nevertheless, Manson didn't completely rip off his fans. He focused his creative energy where it mattered most - in the night's performance. From his first appearance, singing with his back to the crowd for set opener "Hey, Cruel World," he was a charismatic showman, spicing up his primal screams and broody vocals with down-and-dirty spitting and dramatic knee drops. And the set, while far too short, never lacked in energy and intensity. Besides Manson, much of the credit goes to his lone, longtime bandmate Twiggy Ramirez; the bass player until 2009, Ramirez proved to be mighty capable on guitar, particularly during some nasty riffing to start "The Dope Show."

Warming up the crowd was Los Angeles-based band Butcher Babies. Frontwomen Heidi Shepherd and Carla Harvey, jumping around in tight, cleavage-popping outfits that were about as subtle as the dense death metal, violently screamed just about every word in their set. But that sound was easier on the ears than when they actually attempted to sing.

The tour stage show wise is definitely the best they have done in years, but the lack of a set list in length and variety during the times they have done their own headlining shows is very disappointing. If the show came to Philly, I would definitely go, but I can't see driving hours like I did for previous tours. Maybe there will be some surprises as the tour goes along.

I hope you're right! The more I hear about the show, the less exciting it seems. I'm very disappointed already that there isn't much focus on his new album, which I love. What about goddamn arms, disengaged or murderers? Those are all great tunes and would translate well on stage!

Marilyn Manson kicks off 2013 North American tour in Milwaukee
JANUARY 19, 2013 BY: JOHN SCHULZE

Last night Jan. 18 Marilyn Manson kicked off his 2013 North American winter tour in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at The Rave and played for a crowd that just about filled the ballroom to capacity. The highly anticipated tour was a much bigger stage show than anything Manson did in 2012 and the light show was as big as they come, complete with confetti guns that rained down copious amounts of atmosphere and ambiance all over the wildly enthusiastic crowd. Fans shouted back the lyrics to every song as Manson controlled the stage with his epic brand of confident shock rock.

Manson brought out Butcher Babies to support the tour, and their no holds barred brand of metal was a perfect fit to open the show. Butcher Babies recently signed a record deal with Century Media and will release their debut CD this summer. Manson Played for a little more than an hour and touched upon his hits, old and new, and some fan favorite cover songs. "Dope Show," "Slo-Mo-Tion," "Personal Jesus," and "Sweet Dreams" seemed to be the tracks that fans especially reacted to and Manson saved "Beautiful People" for the encore. I had been traveling the week before the show, and the cold weather affected the mechanism of my camera. so some of these aren't as clear as they could be.

All my twiggy pics from this show are blurry, and Fred is always too far away from me.

the setlist above is actually from the twins of evil tour, note the absence of IHA.

it threw me off to hear Manson say the words, "THIS IS A TALE TOLD BY AN IDIOT', as it was the first show of this tour, and for a moment I thought they might actually perform Overneath <<Why haven't they already?
It was a great show. The crowd was really into it, Manson and the others seemed to be aswell.

Someone tried to lift me off of the rail saying that 'you've been here for waaaay too long, time to go'. They weren't successful. Dude was infact an asshole, as the person next to me accidentally elbowed me in the face, and he tried to get him pulled out by security for that. Then asking if we were together [I guess to make some weird threat about being behind me?]

It was great to see lots of fans from years past and to hang with them in line and upfront.

I did the M&g and had him inscribe one of the vinyl banners [that had been given out as prizes during GAOG listening parties] with the words "2003-2013 This isn't a show this is my fucking life" as its my ten year anniversary of first having seen him in concert this year.
I can't describe the feeling as I saw him write it without any hesitance. I can't thank him enough for always taking his time with what he signs for me, and in general.
