Edit: The presale password is either one or all three of these: RECORD, COVERT, 412800
I'm not entirely sure if it's for the Wednesday or Thursday or both presales either.

This show is listed on both the House of Blues and Ticketmaster websites as being on January 23rd, but on Manson's site as the 24th. I hope they don't forget to come on the right day! But Norsefire could you please change the date to the 23rd? Thanks!

Me and red. did the Golden Ticket for the Youngstown show in October and you won't get an email telling you where and what time to meet for the M&G until about 4 days before the show, maybe even 3 days before. This is also how it was for the other dates, according to other people that I've talked to.

It is kind of annoying the way they do the whole thing, but it's worth it so I'll deal with it. You will eventually get the email though, no worries!

Show was great last night! Manson was really into it and sounded awesome. He seemed to be in a good mood for the meet and greet. I gave him my bible from catholic grade school and he ripped it for me on stage :) I will post more later. Hopefully with picture or video.

It’s kinda hard to write the phrase “local boy makes good’’ when the local boy is Marilyn Manson, whose idea of good is evil, at least musically and onstage.

But that’s exactly what happened Wednesday night in a little less than 90 minutes at a sold-out House of Blues. Canton-born Brian Warner delivered an arena-worthy collection of hard-rocking industrial metal hits from a career that dates back to 1989.

Yeah, he’s a little long in the tooth to be doing the metal thing. Or so you’d think. But that’s not the case. Manson’s theatrical performance matches his theatrical persona, and it’s pure entertainment.

But is it good music? Well, yeah. His band – guitarist (and former bassist) Twiggy Ramirez, bassist Fred Sablan and drummer Jason Sutter – are among the best in the genre. Between them, the rhythm section of Sutter and his double-kick pounding and Sablan’s thumping’s rafter-rattling bass provide a solid foundation, aided by Ramirez’s shredding guitar. It’s loud but not ear-splittingly so, because somehow, despite the decibels, melody comes through.

Which matters a bit, I suppose, but the main thing with a Manson show is the theatricality. It’s an EVENT. It starts that way with the set-opening “Hey, Cruel World’’ and continues through the “Antichrist Superstar’’ encore.

Donning different costumes as easily as he dons his onstage persona – most impressive might be the cardinal’s robe and two-foot-high miter during “The Love Song,’’ Manson tore through tunes like “Disposable Teens’’ (making a reference to his own upbringing in Canton), “Rock Is Dead,’’ “Coma White’’ and more.

“No Reflection, which is up for a Grammy for best hard rock/metal performance in next month’s awards show, came slashing at the crowd courtesy of a microphone that doubled as a lethal-looking executioner’s knife.

“mOBSCENE’’ had almost a cheerleader flavor to the tune that made it fun song, which is a bit bizarre for a lyric that celebrates obscenity and more.

“The Dope Show,’’ a fan favorite, to be sure, is true Manson theatricality, performed as he did garbed as usual in a pimped-out get-up that seemed reminiscent of a Huggy Bear outfit on the cheesy ’70s cop show, “Starsky & Hutch.’’ But what could get lost in all that flash is the substance of the song. It’s a bluesy kind of metal, where your feet and head are almost forced to move in time to the music.

This WAS a homecoming for Manson, so it was only fitting that some of his family members were in the audience, including his dad, Hugh Warner. And like any good son, Manson acknowledged the old man. Of course, it WAS in Marilyn Manson style, so it’s debatable whether Papa really appreciated the, um, tribute. But it WAS funny.

And that’s really a key aspect of Manson’s stage show. He is truly a singer-songwriter-musician. But he’s an actor, as well, in a role that he doesn’t just play; he INHABITS. His show is Entertainment, with a capital E.

Can’t say that for the opening act, the Los Angeles-based Butcher Babies. It’s as if Hugh Hefner bought a solid backing band for a couple of implant-sporting Playmates. Guitarist Henry Flury, bassist Jason Klein and especially drummer Chris Warner (no relation to Manson, just fyi) deserve better than “vocalists” Heidi Shepherd and Carla Harvey.

But to their credit, they do keep good time, scream well and look great in leather pants. And if the Olympics ever makes synchronized hair-twirling an event, they’re shoo-ins for gold.
