Yeah, looks like a nice intimate venue. I quite like him playing a small venue for once, especially as this isn't really a show to promote a new album or anything. Lots of opportunities for something special.

Don't smoke weed, kids.

Why? smoking weed and snorting cocaine are a part of Marilyn Manson's experience. About half of Manson fans including Manson himslef aren't teetotals.

To me this looks like the best set since the GGG tour. Man i remember back in 2008 when they played Mechanical Animals live.
I'd love to hear that one. The dutch Manson crowds are so fucking lame. I'd love to have a fucking mosh during little horn.

20:00 In dutch time. I'm going but i'm not recording the show. Maybe take a few pictures. I saw Rob Zombie in the same venue the 1st of July. It's a really small room but that makes it all the more fun.

Oh okay, so it's an intimate indoors show then? And 8pm, so 7pm here in the UK and around 12pm on the West Coast!
Please let us know with some live pictures in real-time!

I dont understand why they picked a small venue.
Manson can´t sell more than 2000 tickets? WTF.

I dont understand why they picked a small venue.
Manson can´t sell more than 2000 tickets? WTF.

Manson since like forever has always played smaller venues. Ranging from 1500-3000 people.
Manson couldn't sell out any thing bigger then this now a day unfortunately.
But personally i like it like this. Its everyone else's lost they are not going to the show and the shows are so much better in theatre, more up close and personal. You feel the brutality!

The Netherlands is a small country and the majority here listen to dance music. Only a small group of people still like Manson.
I can't believe that it's been 2 years since i last saw Manson. So excited to finally see angel with the scabbed wings live.

I dont understand why they picked a small venue.
Manson can´t sell more than 2000 tickets? WTF.

The main reason that he is playing this venue is that it is a new venue that opened last month and the organizers wanted some special acts for the first few dates.

My favorite shows have been the smaller ones, they'll sell out and the whole thing is a party where everyone is there for MM. Much better than the bigger venue a with seats empty or him with co headlines whos fans aren't MM fans as much. Just imo

Ha. I'm not overjoyed seeing him play it safe, we all knew those tracks were coming.
This is often the danger with fan forums, because information the smaller contingent may have been aware of in advance is not necessarily being pored over by the masses who attend concerts. Consider that the large majority of folks seeing Manson play tonight had no idea that three classics like Get Your Gunn, Mister Superstar, and The Reflecting God would feature. For that predominant part of the audience, it must have been a complete and pleasant surprise.
Besides, even fully aware that these tracks were rehearsed for playing, it's still intense to think about ...Gunn and ...God making a setlist for the first time in, well, a long time.

Enjoy the magic, don't hide from it.

Well this is it, I mean, I've not seen The Reflecting God played since 2001 if memory serves, so if that's part of the proceedings next time the band make it here, not to mention nestled in with new material by that time, I may do a piss.

Also, consider that Twiggy originally layered 27 different guitar tracks into the studio version of Antichrist Superstar, and even with all the digital trickery in the world, it's fucking hard to make that track sound as big as it did originally when played live. Two guitarists, a young, metal-based drummer, and Twiggy playing back on bass is going to make songs like that seem enormous.

Additionally, if that setlist is reliable, having the bulky, heavier songs altogether at the end of the show must have made for a powerhouse closer.

The setlist was great, especially reflecting god which obviously wasn't planned. Manson did forget lyrics from time to time, but nobody cared.
Not a lot of theatrics, because the venue was so small I do t think it would have been possible.
To me it kinda felt like a stripped down try out show, which made it kinda special.
Most of the keyboard parts were played by guitars and it sounded pretty fucking cool. There were still samples being used, but not a lot.
Solid band, veery good. a Manson show never sounded so 'live' imo. And did I mention HEAVY? Twiggykicked ass andwas awesome. As usual

I hate it when live instruments get replaced with synthesizer, then they might as well reduced themselves to dance clubs if they're not going to use much of a live act. Oh well, NIN last night had much synth used and still sounded damn good. I think Manson could still do amphitheaters if NIN can.

It was the other way around. Synths were mostly replaced by guitars. Unlike masters of madness where they played a tape

I still can't believe there were already 17 songs on the setlist and Manson randomly threw in THE REFLECING GOD at the end.

Usually there are 12-15 songs on the setlist and sometimes one of them are skipped.

Working with his new band must have really inspired him, I hope he'll keep this excitement. From the short IG clips I've seen, the band sounds AMAZING.

Also, fuck theatrics. I'll be busy enough watching those 5 gentlemen rip it up on Monday and I'm fine with that.

Show was great, the band sounded amazing with the second guitarist. Manson was a bit disappointed, forgot his lyrics quite a few times and was off with his timing quite a few times as well. All the songs sound a lot heavier and more "live" now, I really like this and is refreshing for some songs we have heard for over a decade now.

Best setlist for a manson show ever for me and everything looks very promising for a new tour and album.

Well, I made it back home. Finally.

The band was great, Gil Sharone definitely knows how to rock the drums, and though I missed the keyboard at times the second guitarist really added to the overall sound. The band started out very heavy with Angel with the Scabbed Wings and managed to keep that up the whole time. Manson really knows how to pick his band members.

However, Manson himself was horrible. I haven't seen him give a good performance here since 2003, and he was very obviously drunk again. He kept thinking he was in Amsterdam instead of Utrecht, messed up quite a bunch of lyrics and his voice and timing were just off too many times to just ignore. This may have been the last time I attended one of his shows.

I got me a setlist but I gave it away to some girl, so I guess all that I took home with me from this show is disappointment.

The boring question that comes after every concert, did he tear the bible? lol

Man, what is up with him . . . ? I keep hearing he's too stoned to get through the shows. People were saying that on the last tour too. I hope he really isn't that bad off. It's interesting though, back in the 90's we were like wow cool he's so fucked up. And now it's like everybody expects him to just put on a great show. And not be fucked up. Maybe it's as simple as the difference between cocaine and alcohol . . . ? . . . hell, I dunno. I saw one of his amphitheater shows a few years ago though, and it was at least as good as any of the old video/DVD stuff. I had impossibly high expectations for finally seeing him, and he not only met them, but blew the fuses on them to hell and back. It was a little more intimate feeling and he actually wore clothes and not basically women's underwear and bondage gear, but all the theatrics were there and he just had a strong presence and kicked the hell out of every song, had a few cool costumes for some songs. Eh well, maybe with such a good band and some new music coming out, he'll get his spirit back. It's odd to hear he was too stoned to even know where he was, because in the recent interviews, like with Bret Easton-Ellis, he sounded as intelligent and clear-headed (and perverse and funny) as ever. And you know, some interviews in recent years, he really did sound totally whacked out. Everything I've seen, seems like he's making a really good comeback. Sucks to hear that about this show. As far as the Bible thing, the show I saw about five years ago now, he had a Bible and a preacher's outfit and just ever so casually set it on fire before throwing it. It was pretty awesome. Just about all his antics like that had a clever satirical slant to them. And apparently some people didn't know that was a habit of his, because I heard several of them talking about it after the show. One redneck was like, "I's thinking - heheh - you goin' to hell, buddy!"

That sucks if he's slurring lyrics and stuff. I remember Ginger Fish saying he was worried about him. I dunno, I kinda' feel about him like I do Stephen King, just glad he's still around and doing his thing. Not all the reviews lately have been bad, like in Nashville when he came back after so many years, I read a story from their newspaper, and nobody knew what to expect, said it would be "crazy" . . . but said afterward it was a great show and a little provocative but the only real complaint was it didn't last long enough, was only like an hour. If nothing else the "set" for this tour is excellent and definitely a full show. And he's improvising a little too. Never been a rock star, so I can't say, but maybe the first night of any new tour is always hardest. Just tryin' to be optimistic . . . because if it was me reading the signs, I'd say he's got a lot of good stuff in the works right now.

08-06-2014, 04:32 PM
First of, being at a show is very different from watching youtube videos. Also, he is not at all too fucked up on drugs to do his thing. He is getting older, his vocal chord has been somewhat damaged from all the screaming, and he is out of shape compared to most showmen. If he started running, doing some yoga and lifting weights four hours a week, then he would sing and move much more energic and confident, and you wouldn't even notice the joint, or the glass he had before the show. It's not like he's taking heroin or have a rutine of tripping balls on stage. He's just a normal middle aged man where he's expected to be a rock n roll beast. Also it wouldn't hurt if he took some vocal training on a weekly basis. Still, if you're really into his thing it's not like you wouldn't enjoy the hell out of it if you actually went there yourself.

NapalmHeart

Why not jogging? It's not like he isn't a biological creature like us which also would get more oxygen to his brain and better stamina from improving his blood pump. And it seems like he's very in his head and not so much in his body, he would be more confident if he got a better physical intelligence. And on a more superfical note I think he would like to lose a few pounds, aslo. He's narsissistic element would improve if he didn't have to paint his chin black. I'm happy, though. Whatever he wants to do, he own the rights to his own body. I reaspect him and enjoy his art. But I wouldn't compalin if he decided to improve himself in order to become even better than he is. It's not like he couldn't have a bit absinthe and weed, still. He dosn't seem to be an abuser to me. An abuser wouldn't even make it to most shows. Man . . . I spoke too soon, just based on what people were saying. YouTube videos usually look and sound pretty shitty, even if the actual show was good. And these are pretty damn good even on Youtube. I noticed a few slip-ups on lyrics, but maybe because I was paying close attention, and I've seen that happen at all kinds of concerts and half the time nobody notices - hell I even saw Garth Brooks sing the same verse twice one time and nobody cared. I notice fan sites are always more critical anyway . . . David Copperfield's fans even bitch about his shows on his website/forums. I was pretty knocked out by those videos, thanks for posting 'em. Especially "Mister Superstar". I would have been thrilled out of my mind to be at this show. And another thing, like some other people said, just the "energy" between him and the new band and the crowd, you could tell, it was just maxed out. This'll be a hell of a good tour. ;)

Also stop comparing Manson to Trent. Since the subject gets mentioned all the time. I will put in my 2 cents. Trent hasn’t put out anything interesting since Chris Vrenna’s departure. Everything has been bland and stale since then. Trent vocal abilities are quite boring to be honest. The dynamics are always the same. Manson has a vision, and knows how to present it. Trent has money and a horrible ego.
Rock n Roll shouldn’t be predictable.
I can proudly say that I’ve been a fan of Marilyn Manson since the 90’s and the mother fucker still has it.

The whole night was somewhat mediocre for me, seen similar all too many times before, a largely generic setlist and lack of theatrics.

For me, Manson's last string of performances that actually still blew me away and surprised me were at the start of the Masters of Madness tour. I feel that MM has overrated and hyped up these new shows (still, only night one, I'm not that serious) but failed to deliver the full package that I know he is more than capable of.

All bark, no bite in my honest opinion I'm afraid. Same predictable show with not enough in the way of enthusiasm or attitude and rather too much nervous energy.

But, as always there is room for improvement. I was surprised by some performances tonight, Rock is Dead in particular feels like it has new life to it.
We'll see on Friday for what comes next, tonight felt like just a warmup and only a taste of what MM is capable of, at least I hope.

Give me back that "dirty dirty rockstar..."

I guess its it's a case of "I am the one you want and what you want is so unreal..."

The live band sounds absolutely killer. Tyler Bates is a beast, and I'm digging the second guitarist. Very nice touch, and I think it's a better move than going with some keyboardist who, at the end of the day, doesn't really even do or add all that much. Twiggy/Gil are a brutal rhythm section, and let's be honest, when has the first show of a tour gone off that well, and sounded that good? Since 2003? Manson could be better, but I was actually surprised by his performance. He sounded decent enough, and didn't seem fucked up, at any rate. I think the talent surrounding him in Twiggy, Tyler Bates, and Gil Sharone has forced him to up his game and keep a lid on the intake of intoxicants, which is great. A lot of fans have been agitated over the past however many years because we know MM is capable of performing better, especially for those of us who have seen the group before everything started to go rapidly downhill from the AAG era and on. There's a lot more to be positive than negative about here, and the setlist is just banging.

Wow. Angel with the Scabbed wings and the intro was so amazing. I'd have happily shat myself had I been there. Watching that one video I have no clue what some people are complaining about. That was awesome guys. Enjoy this lineup while it lasts. Also, Twiggy is just so exciting to watch live!

Rock is Dead was great too. I loved how Manson performed it with so much personality. It'd be boring if he sang it note to note like they recorded it. Manson infuses his personality in his live performances and gives a really sincere show. He could have just stood there if he wasn't feeling up to it and just sang it like a paid professional and do a little preplanned routine or whatever and kept on finishing songs after songs like that, but he doesn't. His performances are sincere and that's why they are special in my opinion. He gives you the real Marilyn Manson just as he is. It's like a one and a half hour super meet & great.

The Little Horn performance was really cool because his screams sounded similar to the DTTW VHS ones! It feels the band were just great throughout the show. Manson's vocal performance stood out for me in this song.

Will have to check out other videos too. I think some of these YT videos are really well recorded. Kudos and thanks to those who took the effort of recording them!

The concert was AMAZING!!!

Manson appeared to be in best physical shape he has been in years! Awesome makeup too. There were a few fuck ups during the show but altogether he DELIVERED (and out of all the shows of his this one was by far the longest). Loved the stilts he used during sweet dreams adnof course the podium for ACS. And the setlist couldn't have been better - All the songs I wanted him to perform live were performed - ACS, This is the new shit, Little horn, Tourniquet etc etc.

After this performance I am sure that the new stuff Manson and Co have cooked up for us will be great as they all looked like they were having lots of fun during the show.

Only disappointment were the people in the audience, really square and sort of unenthusiastic considering it was MM's first live performance in a looong time.

Ah and the intro was EPIC!! I guess that must have been Tyler Bates' work.

Yes! I hope also. Like what he did on TGAOG. Since its so good, manson probably thinks that its good enough to put on the album. I dont know why he wouldnt put it somewhere like on his site or whatever.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!

Why the hell they had to mess up Alf Fest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Manson could have just went there, play Angel with the Scabbed Wings, shit on stage and go away because I wouldn't care.
I just hope I can live to watch Angel with the scabbed wings being played live, and I do hope he can come back to the UK after this short tour, to compensate for his absence at AltFest (playing the same setlist he played here would be allright, but as I've said, I would be happy only with Angel with the scabbed wings)......................

It looks and sounds like it was a great show and we're lucky to have this many videos of it so fast.

FUCKING AWESOME SHIT, amirite?

But still, people are excited and partying down and heading home and crashing after an awesome night out.

Give 'em a chance to wake up and scrape the stardust from their eyes before chasing them down with pitchforks for their footage, plz.

Overall the band is sounding great. Sometimes there's that warm up period on the first couple of shows as they iron out the kinks (and there was the usual minor problem here and there) but for the most part everything sounds killer. Manson's voice is sounding good.
I'm not sure on the two guitars thing. I always enjoyed when Manson got on guitar for a couple of songs (Dried Up, etc), and I guess this ruins any hope of that happening, but mostly I feel like it's unnecessary for a lot of songs. Some guy standing on a riser up the back playing second guitar in a Tripp jacket, just reminds me of Deathstars somewhat. I'd prefer to have keyboards, I'm not a fan of overly relying on backing tracks and when you've got main melody parts or the crazy keys in ACSS just erupting out of nowhere, it just seems weird. Maybe the second guitar will grow on me over time, but I'd still want some keys up there.
Gil seems to be doing a good job on the kit. He totally looks like he doesn't belong up there with the rest of the band looks-wise, but the playing sounds great. My one gripe would be to say can we please just have another drummer that can play the chorus to The Dope Show correctly? It's close, but no cigar. A minor thing but it's a great part that's not hard to play for guys of this calibre. Maybe I just notice it more being a drummer, but I think it lets the chorus down somewhat.

Besides, even fully aware that these tracks were rehearsed for playing, it's still intense to think about ...Gunn and ...God making a setlist for the first time in, well, a long time.

TRG was last played in 2007 and, as far as I'm aware, that was also the last time anything at all was played from Portrait.

TRG was last played in 2007 and, as far as I'm aware, that was also the last time anything at all was played from Portrait.

Fragments of "Prelude (The Family Trip)" were actually performed as a spoken word intro for "mOBSCENE" on the Masters of Madness tour last year.

But, yeah, other than that the most recent performances of ANYTHING from Portrait of an American Family was the medley of "Sweet Dreams.../Lunchbox" from '07.

And "The Reflecting God" was actually performed on the anniversary of the release of Antichrist Superstar in Lincoln, NE on the Twins of Evil tour, as well as having been soundchecked at least a few times, too.

While we're at it, "Get Your Gunn" was last performed on the Against All Gods tour in '05 and "Mister Superstar" was last performed as an intro for "1996" back in '01.

Jesus HELL, I'd say the setlists have really gotten amazing but honestly they've ALWAYS been amazing.

FUCK, YEAH.

This show was really good!! I've seen him in The Heineken Music Hall, Amsterdam 2009, and this one. I liked this concert far better, much more overview and intimate :) He had far more interaction with the public! There was a moshpit during the whole concert (A friend and me started it during the second song, it never stopped, sorry xD) He gave a killer show!!
