Well we just got off to a great start with MMT dropping his phone down the side of the driver's seat while actively arguing with my car's voice command thing. Now he is reading the car's manual. We have not moved one inch from outside my apartment yet and it has been like half an hour - of me just watching him struggle.

Relax, people. The stage was too small for the screens probably, and they're switching around the songs. It's all good and people seemed to love the show from what I've heard. Don't start the whining in front of your computer screens again without having been there.

There are probably multiple setlists....something unheard of for Manson. It was a good show, but I am glad I am going to another one. Really wanted to hear slave and mr superstar along with the video screens. It was nice to hear hate anthem again.

Tyler is definitely the best thing to happen since skold.

Exactly what he's doing according to this interview:

“We’re doing different sets each night,” said Manson. “We’ll do a few songs from the new album and a lot [of older ones] that we haven’t played in a while, and the show will be very theatrical. I think people will be very happy.” - http://swampscott.wickedlocal.com/article/20150123/ENTERTAINMENT/150127935/12434/ENTERTAINMENT/?Start=2#sthash.1J0pYAyp.dpuf

I bet you he likes Bates. I know people give him a lot of shit but POAAF had some awesome songs and Tourniquet may be my fav song of all time. Tyler Bates and him could maybe wrote some cool stuff. Daisy is not the greatest working alone but with someone amazing like Bates I bet they could come up with some cool stuff.

OK, so maybe not PROFESSIONAL audio gear, Lol, but definitely not a RadioShack mic. About $500 worth of gear. It came out a little muddy and distant, but you can thank The Electric Factory for that, and the fact that I was far out near the soundboard in an attempt to get away from the screamers and the people constantly brushing past you. I originally planned to record from the front of the balcony, but my taxi cab dropped us off about 5 blocks from the venue (even though we asked, "is this The Electric Factory?", and he said yes.) Not being from Philly, it took a bit of time to figure out how to get there on foot. Still not a bad recording at all, though. I don't mean this in a disrespectful way, but with the recording you can tell how "so so" Manson's singing still is. At the show you get caught up in the moment and the wave of volume and don't really notice, but with high quality gear that separates all the instruments, vocals, etc., you can really tell.

Anyway, the show and the opening night show were part of my honeymoon trip, so I won't be able to work on it until I get home tomorrow (Monday) morning. It will eventually be shared on dimeadozen.org. (As a look now, there was another recorder that already has his version up. Not sure if I'll release mine now. Based on his gear it's got to be better, but we'll see.)

Killing Strangers sounded great - came through loud and clear on this mic. Also sounds a lot better live than the recording does.
I wonder if he included that song on the setlist specifically for his dad, because he introduced Hugh right before going into that song, and Hugh was wearing a SoA windbreaker at the show.

It was so awesome seeing Twiggy rock out on bass again.
I also unintentionally caught a towel that he threw onto my head. He also hilariously tried to throw another towel into the audience but it didn't even make it off the stage, which yielded an ironic fist pump from him.

I was excited that the crowd in the pit was so excited but damn, if I weren't so short so that my boobs act like a first layer defense against the rail, I'd have at least several broken ribs right now. And that was WITH MixMastahTee behind me trying to hold everyone back.

I was really glad Manson kept No Reflection, or any song at all from BV. I hate how usually when he tours, it's like the previously released album never existed. Slo-Mo-Tion would have been way better though imo.

Honestly, I love every song that is on the setlist but, I kind of don't like the setlist as a whole. It's literally just singles. I was hoping that since this album came with a different kind of attitude that so would the tour, but no.

Also I think it was a really awful decision to not have a big curtain over the stage. Also I think it was a really awful decision to not include the podium or DRUGS marquee.

But it was definitely a solid performance. Manson had a lot of stamina, didn't skip very many vocals.

Coma White as the encore was kind of funny because it snowed during Coma White and then was actually snowing when we walked out of the venue.

Damnit! Literally the only reason I bought a ticket to this was because I was so excited when the first setlist was posted and saw that they were really changing things up and playing 7 (!!!) songs from the new album,

Now I am bummed knowing it's back to the same stupid greatest hits repetitive thing. Excited to hear the 4 new songs live but that alone is not really worth my $75 to be honest.

I hope tonight is a bit different, and they play more of the new material because if I'd seen the set lists from the last two dates I literally wouldn't have bothered.

TrainWreck96
01-27-2015, 11:07 AM
I could complain about things like lack of theatrics or a setlist that looks like the track listing on a greatest hits album, but goddamn is the current band tight! They were in the pocket all night! The last show I had attended before this was with Alice Cooper in Reading, PA and the band at the time seemed to be running on two cylinders. Perhaps the underwhelming performance that night was partially due to a crowd with lackluster enthusiasm. This current incarnation of the band, however, wiped me out with high energy and a tight sound! I needed someone to squeegee me off the floor when the show was over.

I managed to contract the plague shortly after the show, so late in posting, but... wow. This show was everything I was hoping for and entirely worth the bruised ribs I got from the security barrier.

High energy, the band sounds fucking fantastic. During IHA, I noticed that Tyler seemed to be having the time of his life, loved seeing that.

Highlight for me was TMOLA - I've felt it was a highly emotional and painful song despite its upbeat nature, and this performance really seemed to reflect that. Pretty sure he was actually bleeding during it, and that made it a very visceral and real performance for me.

Coma White, with the flowers and blood-stained shirt and ropes was absolutely haunting.

For all the complaints about the "greatest hits" setlist... I'm not bothered by it. I've heard some of these songs five times live, but there's always some subtle different, slight nuance to make it an individual performance. If I had the funds, I'd go to every show even if the setlist never changed because it's about the experience ... I've been to a ton of shows over the past couple years and none has come close to providing the feeling that a Manson show does. I think for some of us, it's more than what songs are played, how they sound, etc. It's something I've tried to describe in the past, but have never been able to put my finger on. There's just a sense of euphoria, a "high" of sorts that I simply don't get from anything else.

Shangs, a good chunk of those photos are not from the Philly show.

Coma White, one of the only photos I took:

I enjoyed the show with my phone off, but couldn't resist this.

I like it too, kind of looks like the mic stand is on fire...plus the blood and snow, nice imagery. Those three all stand for ephemerality for me so it blends together quite nicely in my head. And not to forget Coma White itself which features elements of ephemerality as well.
