lol where are you seeing this? I've only seen gratuitous, overwhelming praise for Bad Witch so far. Are you just reading Facebook comments or something?

Also - that drum syncopation like after "knuckle dragging animal" at ~1:30 in Ahead of Ourselves gets me hard.

I haven't had a chance to listen to this yet, I feel ashamed. As soon as I do, I'm sure I'll be here praising it.

Oh shit. Well I finally listened to it. I loved I'm Not From This World and Over And Out. Those two back to back are a trip. And bringing back the Sax in Play The Goddamned Part was a nice touch. The only person other than Manson who can make a Sax sound terrifying (And Colin Stetson) is Trent. Damn. Now I'm trying to decide which of the three EPs I like the best.

Went to bed at midnight last night, realized the new NIN album must be out already, put it on to fall asleep. Definitely an interesting first listen and experience. I think it's brilliant. Also, it made me dream of Manson, so there must be a connection somewhere.

After my second listen this morning, I like it even more. The chorus in Over and Out still sounds like Trent is trying a little too hard to channel his inner Bowie, but I'm sure it'll grow on me. Most NIN music takes time to grow. Especially when he decided to go lo-fi again.

I'd appreciate it a little more if it was titled an EP, not an album, but I see why he chose to market it as an album (streaming algorithm bullshit,...)

    8/10

All three releases do make one hell of an album though.

Albums have a higher standard than EPs, imo. As an album, it "competes" with The Fragile, Year Zero, etc., if he had released it as an EP, it'd be a killer EP next to the previous two.

But as I said, I do understand the reasons behind pushing it as an album. The general trend seems to be short albums, shorter album cycles, yadda yadda, so it's not a huge deal to me.

What do you mean by this?

They're made with higher standards or judged with higher standards? Considering the long delay between AV and BW and Trent's interviews lately about why he sorta decided to follow a slightly different thematic thread than the one he started with NTAE/BW, do you not think he put as much effort into any of these releases than he would have a standard-length album?

I'm genuinely curious because I'm having a hard time imagining a scenario in which I would go into a music listening experience knowing the track count and track lengths but forming a different opinion based on whether the artist labelled it an EP or an album.
