    Default 'Indie' Music

    Posted this elsewhere...

I wanted to start this thread as a means of discussing and sharing with others some great "indie" music and bands. This is mostly the type of music I listen to and I am always glad to recommend some great music and to get recommendations myself! I will start out by naming a few of my favorites:

    Neutral Milk Hotel
    Man Man
    The Decemberists
    Autopsy Protocol
    Islands
    The Unicorns(R.I.P)
    Gogol Bordello
    Apes&Androids
    The Avett Brothers
    Crystal Castles
    Dananananakroyd
    Metronomy
    Grandaddy(R.I.P)

Well I love Silversun Pickups, and they've been considered indie so I hope that fits your description. :)

Yeah, awesome. I really like the voice. Might have to check them out more in depth.

Cool, are there any in particular though? That's quite a list lol. I've heard stuff from The Decemberists though and they're pretty good.

Neutral milk Hotel and Man Man are two of my absolute favorites. If you want something hardcore try Autopsy Protocol.

I honestly don't know if they're considered indie or not, but some unknown bands that I've been digging lately are:

West Indian Girl [Haha, not unknown for too long, I'm sure]
    ONCE
    Echoes De Luxe
    The New Regime
    Grace And Manners

Awesome, I haven't heard of any of them. I will make sure to check them out.

Yeah, "indie" is just some label. I don't care much for labels that's why I always put quotes around the word but I guess it's a fair description. Any music act that doesn't have a major label backing them, and any group that pretty much finances themselves independently, and as a result remain relatively obscure I give the "indie" label.
