I don't know how you can't like this album. It has been on non stop tonight and I am loving the songs that I did not like as much when I first got my cd. Every song is fucking awesome and the vocals are classic Manson. It is easy one of my top 5 albums of all time already if not in the top 2. The music is awesome and the way the vocals are recorded is what I was wanting. I know they might not be perfect all the time but I think it was meant to be that way. Plus his voice is not a 29 year old Manson anymore. You can tell by songs like "Murderers" he can still scream in the studio. "Born Villain" sounds like it could have been on Holy Wood and his vocals would not have sounded out of place. If you have not given this album a chance then you're missing out because it is that good. Manson will have a lot of new fans from this album and gain back a lot of fans that left when EMDM came out..(all my friends). I can tell that this is something special when my friends in their 30s who hated the last 3 albums are loving this album. I know some of the tracks take some listens to get use to but they are fucking awesome. Not one bad song or weak song. If you really just don't like this album.. well.. sucks to be you because I feel like I am hearing Manson for the first time again after 16 years. Best album I have heard since Holy Wood... no album even comes close in 11 years. This was the album I was hoping to hear back in 2003 when Golden Age leaked. I have grown to love that album years later but it is no where near as good as Born Villain. Plus the lyrics are a lot better on Born Villain.

Finally some positivity on this website, I also loved this album and it exceeded my ultra high expectations (unlike most fans I loved THEOL).

"Finally some positivity"? Most of the reviews in this thread have been positive.

Yeah, there's hasn't been this much positivity with regards to Manson in a long time. I mean, his last two albums were generally well received by fans anyways but it seems that the majority of fans like this album a lot. I tend to be realistic about things though, so I can't help but point out the flaws of the album, but I am glad that others are enjoying it.

I avoided the previews, waiting for the actual cd to give it a first hearing. I admit I had really big expectations, and I had a lot of fear to listen to it... but I love it. I don't want to rate/compare to other MM albums (something I hate doing anyway) yet, but I want to listen to it again and again. THEOL took a lot more listenings to appreciate it as much as I do like BV. I want to join Vilebody saying: thanks MM :-)

i don't quite understand the love for "the flowers of evil", it's the only song on the record that really stood out as shit to me. highlights are definitely "hey, cruel world..." (that scream), "children of cain" and "born villain". very tight record lyrically, a little generic musically, but that's classic MM, right? the music is more a vehicle for manson's voice and message than anything else. i'm really digging the return to a more electronic sound though, the synth work on the high end of low was terrible.

it's a good 7 on 10, there's definitely lots of effort here, plus his voice sounds great.

This is the first album in a long time upon first listen, felt like a Marilyn Manson album. It had that signature vibe of old Twiggy/MM songs, but definitely felt the influences they try to add in with THEOL done in a much more accomplished way. For me personally, it's the strongest album as a whole since Holywood. It's a completely different kind of album from that era of MM - but this feels like the album that truly represents what post Tripytch MM has been going for all along.

It's funny that already there are songs on this album that I could easily see ranking in my favorite MM songs of all time. I don't think I'd pull anything from GAOG-THEOL in a list of favorite songs, but BV is the first in a long time to give that challenge. At least in my mind, this album plays out much more like a film than the albums where that seemed to be the intent. Maybe it's the difference in lyrical approach, but I find I get sucked into the mood and mindset of a song more. Part I think is the return to really layered and sonically detailed sound design, which only adds to the depth. This album sounds amazing in headphones, and does some things sonically that are a trip when not sober.

    Highest ranking tracks:
Goddamn Arms (devastating song, huge groove)
    Overneath (instant MM classic imo)
Flowers of Evil (strange but effective)
    Cruel World
    Slo-mo-tion

I enjoy the whole album, but those tracks stand out to me as some of the strongest MM work period.

After my first listen I gave the album a 71%.

    I'm changing that to 93%.

Aside from a few downsides(I found Pistol Whipped and Disengaged to be the lesser tracks but still find myself singing along, catchy), the album is very strong. One of my favorite songs from THEOL was I Have To Look Up Just To See Hell and I feel this album evolves on that feel and takes it even further at times.

This album is no triptych. Those albums would probably rate 100% to me, personally, but this album is definitely better than EMDM(88%)(except maybe the guitars) and THEOL(87%).

So yeah, I definitely had this feeling that it would grow on me. I think I was a bit disappointed my first THEOL listen through but it grew on me as well. I am very pleased that it has. :) Born Villain is great!
