Honestly they are all equal to me. Manson is the one band where I really have no favorites or least favorites. I would rate them all 5/5. But if I had to pick.. it would actually look something like this...might be surprising to some of you:

    1. Holy Wood/Mechanical Animals
    2. Eat Me Drink Me/High End of Low
    3. Anti-christ
    4. Golden Age of Grotesque
    5. Portrait of an American Family

and I havnt heard Born Villain enough to decide anything concrete on it yet. Get back to me in about a month. Yes, EMDM and THEOL occasionally rate higher than even Antichrist.

I love every album for so many different reasons.
At this moment my order of choice is like this.

    BV
    THEOL
    TGAOG
    MA
    EMDM
    HW
    ACSS
    POAAF

    It always changes.

    ACSS - 9/10
    MA - 7.5/10
    HW - 6/10
    POAAF - 5/10
    GAOG - 3.5/10
    THEOL - 2/10
    EMDM - 1.5/10

Ratings are kind of political, kind of based on personal taste.

If I were to compare his work to classic or important albums (Radiohead, My Bloody Valentine, Joy Division, etc) or my all-time favourites (Portishead, Iggy Pop, etc), this is how I would rank Manson's discog in the bigger picture.

Mechanical Animals is actually my favourite album by a wide margin, but as an album, an experience and a piece of art, ACSS has always been more important and visceral. Half of Holy Wood is absolutely killer, the other half I could do without...never thought it was fully realized, but has some great stuff. The last three before Born Villain have the odd songs I like that would give the album a higher/mediocre rating, but experienced as an album I think it's an accurate score.

Too soon to say, but Born Villain is probably slotting in at 7/10.
