Default Born Villain Your Favourite Song?

Because it was going to be made anyway.

For my money, the entire album is pretty damn strong, start to finish, but three tracks in particular have really jumped out at me as being excellent, not only as far as Born Villain is concerned as an album but as definitive Marilyn Manson tracks: those being "Children of Cain", "The Flowers Of Evil" and the title track.

The first and third are broadly similar, relying on a progressive chord structure tied to vaguely darkwave-styled keyboard effects to move along at a steady clip. But it's "The Flowers Of Evil" that really stands out to me from the rest, containing as it does an incredible transition from a moody, strummed-guitar piece to an explosive, joyous chorus that is as moving as it is catchy. I wouldn't call the track 'happy', but it's most definitely one of the most upbeat cuts in Manson's catalogue. And for that it gets my vote.

The flowers of Evil stands out to me.. It has that 80's glam emo feel to it.. Also for some strange reason, The Gardener stands out for me too!

I love this whole CD, I think Lay Down your Goddamn Arms or Murderers is my fav, but I haven't heard all the tracks in their entirety yet. I can't wait to sit in the Best Buy parking lot Tues day listening to this album waiting for this album to come out. xP

    Slo-Mo-Tion.

Children of Cain and LDYGDA are the only two I dislike, they sound like crappy MA knock offs.

1 Children of Cain - gotta love the chorus!

2 Flowers of Evil - amazing how it abruptly changes from depressing to upbeat. Great for driving.
3 Slo-mo-tion - great for fucking :D and THAT bass line.

    also:

Lay Down Your Goddamn Arms - Mechanical Animals all the way!
Breaking the Same Old Ground - perfect ending, also I hear all other Manson's albums combined into one in this one

Fuck, this album doesn't have bad songs!

I agree. I have to say that it is a very powerful album. I hope he surprises us and makes another one next year instead of waiting 3 years again. The flowers of evil is my favorite because of the unexpected chorus. I am glad that was not in the samples. I am not really a fan of Lay down your goddamn arms but it is worth a listen and I am not into heavy metalish like Murders so that is a weak song for me too but I have the LP looped non stop and there never feels a need to skip a song. Well, maybe no reflection only because i heard it 1000 more times than the others and I need to play catch up.

I haven't decided yet which track I like best, but overall I love this album. I'm not going to make any comparisons because I really don't like to make comparisons of every new album to every past album. So far I'm just simply enjoying it!

Same here, but I have a couple of favorites. Not in particular order:

The Flowers of Evil (amazing lyrics and surreal chorus)
    The Gardener
    Slo-Mo-Tion
    Hey, Cruel World...
    Pistol Whipped
    Overneath the Path of Misery
    You're So Vain

But everything is amazing, can't stop listening to it.

EDIT: The ending of Breaking the Same Old Ground, when Manson sings "I'm owned by death and I'm in love with oblivion" it's so beautiful that it hurts <3

My favourites so far are this ones:

    Overneath the path of misery
    The gardener
    The flowers of evil
    Lay down your goddamn arms
    Born villain
    Breaking the same old ground

Those ones are perfect songs and I can't chose just one. Pure perfection.

One of the reasons I enjoy You're So Vain as much as I do (other than the fact I think it's well done) is the knowledge it's two longtime friends getting together and kicking it.
