Slo-mo-tion.
I want to have sex to this song. <3
I hide behind bulletproof glass
and I can feel your tits
with my brand new camera
(equipped with a flash)
fast-food-nude
I hate you all
but somehow
you find me…
incredibly charming
Hey, Cruel World...
No Reflection
Pistol Whipped
Overneath The Path Of Misery
Slo-Mo-Tion
The Gardener
The Flowers Of Evil
Children Of Cain
Disengaged
Lay Down Your Goddamn Arms
Murderers Are Getting Prettier Every Day
Born Villain
Breaking The Same Old Ground
Slo-mo-tion.

Overneath the Path of Misery, No Reflection, You're so Vain, Slo-mo-tion and Murderers.
I love those.
I've been trying to let the album sink in a bit, I'm thinking it's great so far. Really loving Lay Down Your Goddamn Arms, the chorus in The Flowers of Evil is really great in my opinion. Same in The Gardener, actually. Slo-Mo-Tion is really cool, the solo is great, in my opinion, love that tone.
I like the bridge in Overneath the Path of Misery a lot, too;
'from the top of my lungs
to the bottom of my heart
i scream
at the chasm in between
and the path of misery'
Something about that I just love.
ok, so it's closing in on three weeks since I got the album and "Overneath the Path of Misery" and "Slo-Mo-Tion" are still my favorites. Actually, I really like everything up to "The Gardener." From that point, I think the album gets really pedestrian - although I think "Children of Cain" is great - and never fully recovers. "Flowers of Evil" is just a really unfortunate track since it serves to make "The Gardener" worse by its proximity to the latter. "Disengaged" and "Lay Down Your Goddamn Arms" are two songs I probably wouldn't have played more than once if they didn't have the Marilyn Manson stamp on them. "Murders...," and "Born Villain" are both songs I liked a lot but the misfires before them leaves me completely tired out and disinterested.
When I listen to the album now, I tend to play the first five songs, usually playing all but "No Reflection" multiple times, and then put on some other album. Have to say this one just isn't holding up too well for me.
It changes from day to day, but a constant hands-down favourite since I heard it is actually the title track. I adore "Born Villain".
After repeated listens...
Hey Cruel World
Overneath
Pistol Whipped
Murderers
I've come around on the song Born Villain, I didn't like it much at first, now I'm totally into it.
He builds like a beast and really brings it home at the end, nicely constructed piece of music.
Those are still my favorites.
I think Flowers and Children of Cain are awful and might be the worst MM songs to date.
The fuzzy guitar that comes in on the second round of it is the shit, it sounds so fucking badass and perfectly placed. It feels like old Manson to me for some reason. The type of feel and overdriven guitars that were on ACSS.
it's possible "overneath..." is one of the best Marilyn Manson songs period
Overneath the Path of Misery has landed in my top 10 and is my second favorite song of his in the last decade. Aside from that, the other top 4 I think are The Gardener, Born Villain (musically it's just so rich, I love it), Lay Down Your Goddamn Arms, and The Flowers of Evil. They all are very lush songs and stick out to me as very fresh. Overneath took me by surprise at the drastic quality increase from the demo to the album version, and as many have said, the bridge lyrics are just amazing, and they are some of my favorite by Manson.
That said the full album is phenomenal to me and I think that it rates as one of his best. Total side not but I'm currently proud that my review for it on Amazon is at the highest rated/top review! I really just adore BV and think it was far more satisfying than I even expected.
"Overneath" is definitely one of the better songs he's done in a while. It sounds like classic Manson and I didn't ever really think that there was a "classic" Manson sound.
