Yeah, what a goofy list of internet activity annoyances.

We're talking about places called FACEbook and MYspace, ffs.

Wait, you mean people use those sites to seek attention...NO WAI!!!

And I used to be opposed to the use of emoticons and even internet acronyms myself. But then I used the internet for more than five minutes and discovered their usefulness. Straight-text is is still fine if you're just writing an essay or w/e, but if you're using some annoying mobile device with an awkward user interface or just trying to convey a thought quickly or simply don't want to come across as a dry, monotone, killjoy then it's helpful to keep tools like emoticons and acronyms handy.

Complaining about their usage on the internet is like going to outer space and complaining about the things people do to compensate for zero gravity and lack of oxygen.

Unless you're on Skype or something then people can't HEAR you. Which leads to all manner of miscommunication. Capitalization for emphasis, emoticons for tone, internet acronyms for context...it's all simply trying to compensate for the shortcomings of the medium.

    WTF.

I see social media as a sharing device for important things I find interest in such as news, music, research, live chat with friends, and little else. Whoring yourself through social media in a sense that merely displays showing off to garner attention or seeking pity certainly takes a special kind of vanity which is, unfortunately, now uplifted in today's world. These people are little better than children, and inevitably such a garbage aspect of social media tends to thrive in this embarrassing generation that loves pandering to it.

If someone needs to resort to emoticons/all-caps in their posts for getting their ideas across, then they have inherently failed at basic forms of communication. Leaving them out hardly makes anything dry or monotone; shit, we've succeeded without them for ages. Their prevalence these days really only displays unnecessary rot everywhere you find them. And, yet again, their constant use comes off as fucking childish to the rest of us having to endure it.

Oh hey, there's meaningless shit that bugs me online. Fancy that.

It annoys me that Hazekiah doesn't just change his signature to the list of MM shows he's attended.

I mean, it is kind of his signature anyway. "I'm the guy who goes to concerts!"

^ Haha, if you can make that fit into a signature image that doesn't look like hell then I'd consider it, lol.

For what it's worth, I used to switch my user title to Manson-related puns particular to each city I was going to for Manson...but it got to be a bit of a hassle to come up with something cool AND to get online to change it while I was on the road.

I'm still pretty proud of "Irresponsible Haight-Ashbury," though.

    :)

When you pour a bowl of Lucky Charms and hardly any marshmallows tumble out.
    Dry oranges
    Blacks
Stale cigarillos that break when you try to roll them.

No argument here. The Internet could be more of a useful tool, it could be something merely to kill time with, or people could use it to stroke their unfortunate egos. I'd rather not be an embarrassing douche, personally, while the internet more or less pats them on the back. This general attitude/behavior is not limited to just online, however, and is more of an annoying condition within this current generation.
