Should I buy a Nintendo ds or psp? All opinions welcome.

Ok this is my predicament. My job right now is overnight security at a warehouse that does 12 hour shifts and it sucks. I go in at 7 at night and get out at 7 in the morning. I stay out in the parking lot(which is not that big) for all 12 hours and don't have access to inside the warehouse. My job consists of me not doing much of anything other standing there and walking around in the middle of the parking lot and if someone should break into the 14 foot padlocked barbed wire fence that separates the warehouse from the outside world than all I do is call the cops and take notes. There is no wifi. During last nights shift I almost gauged out my eyeballs do to sheer boredom. I can only listen to my ipod for so long, mybe three hours at the most. The next 9 hours i'm fucked. So I think I might buy one of those hand held videogames devices. The thing is that I don't know that much about video games. I had a nintendo when I was younger and just got a xbox 360 last year. So i'm just looking for info and opinions as to which one I should buy and also what games. Sorry for the long post. Any ideas are appreciated.

I would go for a Nintendo. I have always found them to be reliable and you can get quite a large range of games for them.

Nintendo DS because you can play Pokemon!

I have the original PSP and I really liked it and got a lot of play out of it. I played the GTA PSP games and did link up with friends for multiplayer so that was a ton of fun. But as for the other side of it like storing photos on it, music and videos, well I can do all that on my phone now. I can even play GTA 3 on my phone so I no longer use my PSP.
Having said all that I haven't looked at what the new PSP can do, I'm sure it's probably a lot better than the original one.

As for the DS, I like them although I just mostly play Pokemon. I did play some professor layton games and they were fun and it was cool being able to draw and interact with it.
Not much of a fan of the 3D in the newer DS, didn't do much for me.

Maybe you should look at what they can both do, I think a new DS is coming out soon. Also look at what games you can get and which games you want to play might help you decide more on which one you buy.

The PSP has always been a joke to gamers. If you want a portable movie/mp3 player, heck even then it's not a good choice as iphones do it better.

If you like games like Uncharted and Call of Duty buy a PSP VITA if you like Mario and remastered in 3D N64 games get a 3DS.

Get a Vita. I know you don't have a PS3 but if you did you could play PS3 games on it by streaming them from your home console via wifi. That shit is badass. Plus the Vita is sporting some pretty sweet titles already. From a technical standpoint you'd be getting a lot more for your buck than you would with a 3DS.

The only draw back is that it only supports sony's memory cards as opposed to any old SD card you may already have.

Edit: Sorry I just read where you said you didn't have access to wifi. Vita supports 3G. It obviously costs more and you probably wouldn't be able to/want to stream console games. You would have internet access though. Assuming you don't already have a smart phone.

I consider myself a pretty heavy gamer so for my money I'd take Sony over Nintendo simply because Nintendo hasn't really catered to gamers in long time. They are a kids and casual gamers company. And for Sony, as far as choosing between a PSP and a Vita, with all of the additional technical features and the fact that it supports the hottest new games, the Vita is worth the price difference.
