I'm not excusing anything. I've just never understood the overprotective overmoderation. It's killed plenty of forums I've been on. So what if somebody calls you an asshole or a pig? Can't you just ignore them, the very thing you suggest regular users do when people annoy us?

That's the thing, Cringeon, I'm not shitting on this place. I know that a lot of work is put into this website and forum and I appreciate it - I'm shitting on you - as an individual - because you are oversensitive and hypocritical. You abuse your role and apply rules to those you don't like and ignore the rules for those that you do. It's been voiced by various users yet you refuse to acknowledge it - how many people have to complain before you consider that everyone else might not be the problem?

Cringeon is suggesting people with opposing opinions keep away from each other if they can't keep the discussion civil. If you hate a certain album, and can't discuss the reasons why in a sensible manner with those that love it, then just keep away from the discussion. It doesn't give you free reign to go around throwing out insult left right and centre and counter the complaints with "ignore me!"
A piece of advice you might well consider yourself. All we ever hear is how we're unfairly heavy handed against a certain group that we don't like - has there ever been a thought that those users might legitimately be the problem? Let's throw out the facts here: when I was first made a moderator, it was months before I ever had to take a single action of moderation. Think about that. MONTHS without seeing a single thing needing moderating. When the time came I had to do something, it was moving threads to a more appropriate place on the forum, not reprimanding people for inappropriate behaviour. Then one day Babalon closed, and a large influx of users came over and registered here in search of a new playground. Suddenly, it seemed that there was a steady flow of reported posts and things needing deletion, editing, and infractions. Just consider for a second that maybe that isn't because we're an elite clique that don't want ex-Babalon members on here, and may be because some of those users (not all - many have become great contributors to the forum) wanted to act up in a manner that we never saw as appropriate from the forum's inception, but never had to deal with because it had never happened before.
If you or another user feel like you are being singled out and receive a lot of infractions, consider that there are some users here (Joker, Dysmorphia, Celiny-O as examples) who have been here since the forum first opened that have never, if at all, received any kind of infraction or warning not because they are friends with staff members, but because they have never gone around calling people pigs and assholes. Coincidence? I think not.

It's temporary though, I think some good points have been raised - by nearly everyone, not just staff members - but I have to go to work for nine hours and to be honest this whole topic will just spiral into name-calling if left open.

Kollaps, as someone I've PMed multiple times asking you to keep insults off the forum you should understand what i mean. When I say to ignore someone, its about discussion and participating on the forum. Insulting people directly can not be justified as a joke, nor can you just ask the people you are offending to ignore you. The point of direct jabs is to incite response which is exactly what I'm trying to put a stop to. Even with you or the other members I have had issue with, I don't make insulting posts about you just to piss you off. You can disagree with me, but the level to which you keep it personal and ugly is not welcomed. And there are no double standards, any user doing the things that have become issues will get the same response.I think a small minority may feel singled out because its the same behavior being addressed again and again. If you think someone is getting away with something, report it. We have a whole team here to deal with any concerns, especially if you think I'm somehow allowing people to disrespect you in the manner Ive talked to you about before.
