    Default Pink Floyd

    Because they're amazing.

I listened to this song while I was tripping on shrooms at the beach with my friend. It was night time, and the moon and stars were so beautiful. It was such a peaceful yet deeply emotional moment and I'll never forget it.

Share your Pink Floyd love and experiences.

Well I saw the final show of Roger Waters' The Wall on July 21st in Quebec City.

Outdoor show on a historical battlefield, biggest wall built since the Berlin show in 1990 in front of a crowd of 75 000. I might also add that it was mindblowing.

I saw Roger Waters July 6th in NYC. Best concert I've seen.

Huge Pink Floyd fan from the days of Syd Barrett through to The Final Cut. Tripped acid a couple times to Piper at the Gates of Dawn, which was glorious to say the least. Also tripped acid to a Pink Floyd laser light show once, and watched The Wall while tripping on another time. Pink Floyd just suits that mindset perfectly, and hardly any group even comes close to that experience. Love this band, one of the best that has ever been. My name "Terrapin" actually comes as me paying respects to Syd Barret and the influence he had on Pink Floyd's career and, in turn, music that I highly appreciate and respect.

Can't imagine anyone who hasn't seen the "Live in Pompeii" movie yet, but it's worth sharing. This song gets me every time:

For the sound of what Syd Barrett offered the band in their beginnings, look no further than Interstellar Overdrive:

My first rock concert was a Roger Waters show in Charlotte about 12 years ago. It was pretty fantastic, even without a shit-ton of props. I spent a few years listening to Pink Floyd religiously, but it's been a while since I've put on one of their albums...maybe it's time.

Pink Floyd is a great band but now I see kids that are like 13 and 14 with PF shirts. I doubt they even know who they are, Comfortably Numb is probably the only song they know and that's only because Korn covered it. The trendiness of this band is ridiculous. Crazy talented musicians, and a creative supermachine obviously, but their a fad among teenagers and most kids just wear old band shirts and dont know shit about them. It's cool to cockride Pink Floyd, therefore everyone will put Money on their iPods or whatever the hip kids have these days.

DSOFTM was a technological breakthrough in the music industry and it's totally lost on these kids, the problem with Pink Floyd is that, the musical concept is very far beyond the grasp of the common listener's ear. Like jazz and classical music, a majority of "public" listeners don't understand what is going on in Floyd's music or how it relates to the world. In fact, most people don't even listen to the music. They listen to lyrics.

Today's music is so piss poor in quality and devoid of any artistic value that no one would be able to understand what the composer was thinking if they didn't spell it out verbatim with their words. It's unfortunate that music has taken the nosedive that it has, but hopefully one day the bar will be raised again. Until this happens, there will be an influx of people accepting rap as music before Debussy. It's so depressing.

    EDIT:

You're assuming a lot there Ulysses. How do you really know that the kids don't know shit about Pink Floyd? That's a huge generalization. Your elitist agist attitude is way too common and for one I'm sick of hearing it. Just like I, and many others my age spent our high school years rocking out to PF, Bowie, Queen, etc even though the music of the day was something like 50 Cent, so too do the kids of today.

As for music taking a nosedive, it's purely mainstream wise. There are SO many incredibly talented musicians today. You just have to surrender your biased limited beliefs and discover them.

On a Pink Floyd note, I'm seeing them live in October! :D

Hang on there chili-powder, you wanna talk about generalization but then say I have biased limited beliefs. That's talking like you know me personally, which I'd like to point out you don't. I'm speaking from experience of talking to some of these 13/14 year old's and they in fact don't know jack twat diddily fuck about PF or any bands from the 60's/70's, they just think it's cool to wear the shirt because it's hip.

An elitist attitude would be talking like I thought I was better than anyone else and that's what it seems like you're doing and I wasn't, so careful before you start throwing around allegations there goat-cheese. If you and your friends listen to PF and whomever and know exactly who they are and what there music is about then more power to ya! Obviously I wasn't talking about you and them, so no reason to be a snot and act like I attacked you personally.

And I was talking about mainstream music when I mentioned the nosedive, did I specify? Nope, which meant you were making an assumption based of fucking dick.

    Okay? Okay.

Chill bro. Listen to the Floyd and relax.

It is generalizing when you say all 13/14 year-old Pink Floyd fans are trendy hipsters, as well as saying all of today's music is piss poor. I'm sure many would agree that modern mainstream music is disposable, but there are definitely good bands and artists out there making quality music and playing great shows.

I honestly don't care about kids and their music tastes, but I'd rather them buy into the Pink Floyd niche than someone like Nicki Minaj or whatever. Despite their motivations for sporting Pink Floyd, isn't it still a good band? Isn't that why people can capitalize on them in the first place; because they're popular and well known? Who cares if they really like them or not?

This is why you come off as elitist; it's like you're saying you can't be a young fan unless you divulge yourself in the music the way you think a fan should, and anyone who doesn't is just a trendy consumer.

    Anyway...

Hey You is simply my favourite Floyd song in the entire world. I really fucking just love it so much. Ummagumma is a fantastic album as is Meddle.
