RENO, Nev. -- State Park rescue crews are desperately trying to save a horse from deep mud in Lahontan Reservoir.
Ranger Robert Misiti tells KOLO 8 News Now that a horse and rider were riding along the reservoir early this afternoon. At about 1pm, the rider took the horse into the water to cool off. When they attempted to ride out of the water, the horse got stuck in a sink hole full of mud.
The horse is in about three feet of mud and water is up past its belly. State Park teams have been trying to rescue the horse for hours and have called in Emergency Management Services team out of Steamboat.
Ranger Misiti says the horse appears exhausted and may be suffering dehydration.
