Default BREAKING NEWS: Emergency Crews Trying to Rescue a Horse Stuck in Mud

RENO, Nev. -- State Park rescue crews are desperately trying to save a horse from deep mud in Lahontan Reservoir.

Ranger Robert Misiti tells KOLO 8 News Now that a horse and rider were riding along the reservoir early this afternoon. At about 1pm, the rider took the horse into the water to cool off. When they attempted to ride out of the water, the horse got stuck in a sink hole full of mud.

The horse is in about three feet of mud and water is up past its belly. State Park teams have been trying to rescue the horse for hours and have called in Emergency Management Services team out of Steamboat.

Ranger Misiti says the horse appears exhausted and may be suffering dehydration.

    Poor horse!

The rider should be the one stuck in the mud! Here we are in the 21st century, and this barbarian is riding this creature like an animal!

    UPDATE

After more than 6 hours stuck in the mud a 2,000 pound draft horse is now safely on shore.

Members of Least Resistance Training Concepts used jetting wands to push the mud away from the horse's legs so it could be pulled out.

Park rangers and people camping nearby also pitched in to pull the horse free from the thick muddy bank.

At last check the horse was headed to a veterinarian, but doing fine.

Because the animal was in the water for so long, lowering its body temperature, experts at the scene say they will continue to monitor it for the next 24 hours for follow up care.

It's been like this all over the planet recently, I am so glad emergency rescue teams are always on hand to aid the Horse. This recent news story from my neighbourhood touched me deeply: http://www.theargus.co.uk/news/99087..._Sussex_swamp/
