Shooter Jennings
Manson mentioned listening to Shooter in a recent interview. I had long since listened to Shooter and seen him live as he is one of the only artists in the country genre worth listening to. Although you can't really describe him as country. He changes his style frequently like Manson and I would argue he could be labelled anything from folk to psychedelic rock with a little R&B in there too.
My favorite records of his are "Electric Rodeo" and "Black Ribbons". Electric Rodeo is a solid country/southern rock record however when Black Ribbons came out he blew my mind. Here is the country singing son of Waylon Jennings putting out one of the best concept albums I've ever heard with so many sounds it's like a musical feast. I would certainly recommend anyone into music to give this album a listen. Also on the record in Stephen King. He plays the fictional radio DJ he is being "shut down" by the government.
