Default *The Manson Family Album* or *Portrait of an American Family*

There may not be very large differences between the versions of each songs, aside from a couple tracks, but I figured it'd be interesting to see which version of each song people like more.

For those of you who haven't heard the title The Manson Family Album, it was the original title for Marilyn Manson's debut album; and it consists of the mix of songs that the band had originally put together in the Tate house in California. After they showed this collection to Trent Reznor, Reznor had the band re-record and /or remix every song on the album. So, this thread is more addressing the music and not the lyrics. Although, lyrics did kind of play a role in some of the songs' changes because Reznor and the label didn't like what some of their songs were saying.

Personally, I enjoy most of The Manson Family Album a lot more. Although, there are a couple choices I prefer from Portrait of an American Family. I do enjoy Dogma more than Citronella, even though I prefer Strange Same Dogma over both of those. This is a choice between only the 2. And I think Wrapped in Plastic fit the theme of the album much better than Filth; even though I think Filth sounds better and I enjoy it's lyrics more. But I noticed that overall they changed the tempo and added more keyboard / electronic aspects. And they changed some of the samples. Like as in Cyclops where they threw out the original "We are all evil inside" (which is a lot better, imo) and put in "God is in his holy temple." And they took most Monkey's samples out and made them less prominent in the song. Plus, the opted for the voice distortion over the kid singing the lyrics. Didn't like the changes in those two instances. And I also like slower music, its much more mellow. And I didn't like the speeding up of the tempo in some of the songs. And then there were the additions of empty intros, as in Sweet Tooth and Dope Hat. I don't understand those additions...

So, what's your opinion about the differences in the two? Which is better, iyo? Which do you like overall?

I was digging the artwork. They should have used it for Smells Like Children. That would have been great!

They wanted to use a picture of John Wayne Gacy as the front cover without any words on it.
