There are more, but those ones are the first the came to mind. The best drum work was on Holy Wood, without any doubt.

I love Ginger, he's a great drummer. Really tight. Although I find it Chris a great drummer as well, he didn't fit with the band in 2005. Maybe it has to do with the way he tunes his toms and things like that, it didn't sound good. And Jason fucking rules! Amazing drummer, what he does in this video is IMPRESSIVE

I really hope he stays in the band and record the drums on the next record

You've been pretty snarky at people lately, Empirical Guy, is everything alright? Although I won't drop a turd in my pants over it, I do agree. For all anyone knows Ginger could be the best drummer in the world, he plays in bands that pay a lot of money but don't require any complex drummers. He knows his shit, he plays with an in ear click to every song (which is something most drummers don't like doing and suck at) and nails it gig after gig, he does his job and he does it very well.

I actually think the new bass player is one of the shittest cunts that has ever been in the band. I've seen two clips on the internet where he has missed a note - fuck, I miss notes all the time and shit happens, it's rock n' roll but seriously, Antichrist Superstar is a really easy song to play but I guess when you have Marilyn Manson looking like the penguin from Batman Returns, falling all over the stage and mumbling through a song about shooting things in slow motion. Who gives a fuck. I guess I'll just clap like a sheep with the rest of them if I'm going to be stupid enough to keep going to big venue / international gigs.

Kollaps is on the rag again. Fred is a great bass/guitar player, who actually can keep pace with Twiggys style. Go listen to BV, his bass playing is all over it. Back to drums, there's a great interview with Ginger who talks about how it requires more skill to play well at slow speeds on something like Crucifiction and to play in the pocket compared to running at top speed which I definitely agree with. Ginger isn't my fav drummer by any means, but he definitely has skills more "heavy" or tech drummers do not.

The percussion doesn't stand out on a lot of Manson's catalog, it's just kind of there holding a beat for him. ACSS was great because it sounded so raw and harsh that it elevated the songs to where they needed to go. Great atmosphere. Technically the drum production got better afterward but I don't think it ever sounded better or improved the songs as much, given the material. I liked Holy Wood, but it was a bit too polished sounding and I'm more into production than how someone plays.

Mike Portnoy? (He my fave). Also, this doesn't mean I'm talking shit about Ginger. Just wanted your opinion on Portnoy :)

I am generally Mr. Snarky a lot of the time, but thanks for caring.
You raise a good point with the click thing, obviously most professional drummers are experienced with clicks from recording, though it's true many still don't like it for live purposes. There are plenty of 'amateur' or 'semi-pro' drummers I know though he think they know their shit and a good players, until they encounter a click track for the first time, and realize they basically need to go back to day 1.

There's a story that gets passed round drummers where someone... (Stewart Copeland, I think? Can't remember) was giving a clinic, and someone asked "what is the hardest thing to play on drums?" and he answered by playing a mid-pace, basic 4/4 rock beat for 5 minutes straight without any fills.

The fast metal stuff is definitely a skill - but it's certainly not the be all and end all. If that's all a drummer concentrated on it would be like the guitarists that spend all their time learning how to sweep pick as fast as possible, but never learn basic chords.

Portnoy is good, I like him. I like that he obviously has the ability to do some impressive stuff, but knows when to drop back to basics when the song needs it. Again, certainly not "the best drummer in the world" (whatever that means... pretty useless term imo) but definitely a good player and a personal influence.

As a drummer, I agree wholeheartedly with the Stewart Copeland quote Empirical Guy. Nothing is more boring than playing your typical beat for a couple of minutes without adding flare.

Sure, if you normally play faster paced songs, it is. This is kind of a cop-out excuse.

I'm not talking shit on Ginger but it's cute you think I am. You're a drama athlete.

I don't think that misogynistic comment was really needed just because my opinion differs from yours. Also, I don't really get what you mean by the 'keeping pace' comment. I think Twiggy is a great songwriter, one of my favorites in fact but on that note he writes everything in 4/4 and uses pretty standard progressions and riffs so it's not really much to keep pace with.

Pace with energy, tone and attitude as Twiggy. They've been playing together for quite sometime and share a very common playing style that even MM says is very much in the way Twiggy plays bass (and that no other bass player in the past has matched, Skold, Rob or Andy). You should know that even a simple song (time sig, key, progression) requires skill to play not only correct, but with the pocket and groove. It's really easy to look at the music and say "oh that's easy as fuck" but it's the way you play it and how it comes off.
