I thought Birds Of Hell Are Waiting was the first song they recorded?

Shame there isn't much going on with his movie. Fingers crossed for something in the nearer future.

I love reading all these interviews it's awesome. Getting me really pumped for the new album.

His rationale for not wanting to direct a film is terrible: he's not all that great an actor, and will pretty much only ever be cast on the basis of name recognition (zero reason nobody else could have played Ron Tully on SOA).

I want to see Manson expand his artistic horizons, but I have little interest in seeing him act out some other person's material. There's a reason his film career hitherto has been limited to bit parts, like "mustachioed pervert in Jawbreaker" or "pornographic actor in Lost Highway". Christina was probably his biggest movie role to date and it was still a bit part.

    Blech.

It's Manson. Self-hate and underestimation is part of the job.

    To sum up:
    - The full album was recorded in 3 months but it took 9 months (like a pregnancy he says) to finish it.
    - The album title was inspired by a book Johnny Depp offered to him in France in 2000: Héliogabale ou l'Anarchiste couronné by French author Antonin Artaud.
    - Album lyrics were also inspired by An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge by American author Ambrose Bierce.
-MM asked his art director (Willow) to find a photographer to shoot the album art and then met Hassan Rahim. After the photoshoot, he picked the album cover art just by seeing the thumbail of it in a folder, he saw some kind of Francis Bacon vibe in it.
    - It doesn’t matter how i tell you about my meeting with Tyler Bates, it will always look like a gay porn scenario
    - The album was supposed to have only 9 tracks. Then, they added Cupid Carries A Gun as it was the first song they wrote together when they met. So it was the first they wrote and the last they recorded.
    - He is not working on Phantasmagoria. The first script had no chat, it was all about the description, like Hitchcock. He doesn’t want to film Phantasmagoria as he currently prefers acting in movies thant directing.

La Vie De Brian. I'm sorry, but I kinda prefer that title because it's just so funny.

Has anyone transcribed the radio interviews? Since I am hearing impaired and wear a hearing aid in the left ear, I have a real hard time understanding what is being said if there isn't captions or transcriptions to an interview. Not that Manson is ever hard to understand when he speaks, I just prefer to read what is said so I follow it better.

Birds Of Hell Awaiting was the first song they recorded. Cupid was the first they wrote. And the last they recorded.

I don't see why he would not want to direct. I like him acting, and such. But i want to see his OWN film work. See what he has in mind. Like his writings. I got so excited when he announced the production of Phantasmagoria.

Let's be honest, Phantasmagoria was announced almost a decade ago, it wasn't going anywhere. It would have consumed a lot of time, effort and money. Recources that are better spent on his music career.

Would I have loved to see the movie? Absolutely. Even the leaked trailer gave me goosebumps and was stunning, even at this early stage. But it's going to stay a dream...

I really enjoyed reading An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge, I look forward to unwrapping this album with all of the references that he has given us in interviews and such. I would have liked to see what he would have done with Phantasmagoria as well, but I imagine him to be so much of a dreamer with his art and how much he would want to fill into it, that I think that it would be a great feat to undertake. I imagine that he could never be satisfied with it and finish. Look at how he describes just the part that he has done. I would like to see more of his creative writings, in particular. It is all really fascinating.

Basically, Manson needs to do something beyond music, to establish a legacy for himself. Rob Zombie will be remembered a decade after he retires from music for his films, and his movies are absolute shit.

I'm not saying it has to be Phantasmagoria; to be honest, I think Manson has more talent as a social critics than as a horror film boogie man, and I'd have been far more interested in seeing a Holy Wood picture than that, not that it's going to happen now. But he badly needs to establish himself as a multidisciplinary artist, for purely pragmatic reasons if nothing else: album royalties won't sustain him forever, he's not Michael Jackson.

And I know, I'm a presumptuous prick, get my own career, etc. Or a fanboy projecting myself into Manson. Those are both accurate enough. And I'm still right.

We are going to reach a point seven or eight years from now where Manson will have to make a choice: turn into an Alice Cooper perpetual nostalgia machine for cash or exit stage left and start a new career as a provocateur in other mediums. He's veered dangerously close to the former already, and I think I know which I prefer.

EDIT: If he doesn't have the confidence to direct a full-length feature film, why not write one? Typically it's pretty difficult to shop a script around, but slap a known quantity on its title page and it shouldn't be too difficult. Plenty of independent and cult studios out there would be more than happy to produce a Marilyn Manson film. The hardest thing about writing for the screen are camera directions - "Int.", "Ext.", etc. - But that's what a script doctor is for.
