Thread: Marilyn Manson rip-off bands you may or may not like

I've always wanted to start a Marilyn Manson 'rip-off' band. Nothing overtly, though, and more of a traditional rock sound than the bad pseudoindustrial/nu-metal most of these guys play. My 'rip-off'-edness would come more in the vocal style and lyrics than anything else.

Actually, my idea was a 70s-style punk band with Mansonesque vocals and lyrical themes.

    Like this with raspier vocals.

These bands are really difficult to listen to. I understand that they are influence by something, but come on guys! This is what I call cover bands! They probably do most of their gigs on Halloween at the local college bar.

After a quick review of some of these guys, it seems to me that they fail because they neglect the soft, glammy, 'Marilyn' aspect of the aesthetic in favor of the harsh 'Manson' element.

On the other hand, you could be a shitcunt like Jeffree Star and rip the entire thing off wholesale.

Thing is, glam-Manson is an avenue for his vulnerabilities, not an excuse to be a loud transsexual.

I was in a Manson cover band back in 1997 and thought we were so cool.. then I turned 17 - 18 and realized how fucking horrible we were.. and we were not even close to how bad these bands are.. I have no idea how grown adults could copy a band so much and not think they look stupid. A guy like Chris Motionless can imitate a lot of artists but in the end him and bands like him are just imitations.

    Riff sounds like TBP

A lot of their lyrics in other songs remind me of Manson songs.

I actually really like the idea of finding something very similar to Marilyn Manson. But I agree, most of these bands are awful.

However, I've always really liked Squid (aka 616 Abortions) and their 1999 album The Bitter Saint's Abortion; it reminds me of Antichrist Superstar-era Manson and is an excellent from start to finish.
