    Default Retrospective references

    For instance:

    "Deep Six":

Deep six, six, six, six feet deep

    "The Bright Young Things":

Crashing the aether, we've got the loudest stereotype
Even neophytes deep six your pro-life

    "Get Your Gunn":

I eat innocent meat; the housewife I will beat
The pro-life I will kill; what you won't do, I will

So that, in a roundabout way, "Deep Six" referenced "Get Your Gunn" by way of "The Bright Young Things". I thought that this might even be the reason "Get Your Gunn" was played on the summer tour in 2014.

Manson is very fond of this type of self-referential lyricism. Anyone know of any other examples in the discography? There are lots, but you folks should take a swing at it.

Incidentally, I should add that I think Manson is taking a swipe at his younger, "neophyte" self in "The Bright Young Things".

To revenge the misdeeds of the ruling class, there existed in the middle ages, in Germany, a secret tribunal, called the “Vehmgericht.” If a red cross was seen marked on a house, people knew that its owner was doomed by the “Vehm.”

All the houses of Europe are now marked with the mysterious red cross.

Looks like "Revelation #12" continues the "Get Your Gunn" -> "The Bright Young Things" -> "Deep Six" chain of references.

Which is also interesting so far as the song's title seems to me to be an oblique reference to the "Get Your Gunn" single.

A great topic idea, but also worth mentioning that there are hundreds of these scattered throughout various topics in the forum.
I always enjoy when Manson is self-referential, or even if a phrase gets re-appropriated for something years later. Being able to do it effectively takes skill, and I think he's always managed it well.
