"I am the hated enemy of all one-dimensional realities." This is a very interesting statement. Are you familiar with the works of the French philosopher Jean Baudrillard? He outlines a theory of social interactions based upon representations. These representations quickly reproduce themselves in a capitalist system to the point of Hyperreality. Many of the messages in your music about the lies and blind hatred many of the people of this country perpetuate seems to coincide with this theory well. Your multitude of references to Existentialism and Nihilism also seem to align you with this type of scholar as well (ex. Nietzsche's manifestation of perfection- the Ubermensch [Anti-Christ]).

Mr Manson, what impact on the world would you like The Golden Age Of Grotesque to have? What reaction are you hoping to provoke?I can tell that you are very proud of this record and that you have worked long and hard at it.I hope we can all enjoy it's effects.

Answered by MM on 03/21/03:

I am the hated enemy of all one-dimensional realities. "Now" is not a demand OF art, looking to the TRUE LEGISLATORS OF HUMANITY---ARTISTS---to explain or choose sides when there are none to be found! "Now" is a demand FOR art! We are an idea...that is always becoming what is the opposite of our surroundings. THAT is our side and THAT is our place. "War is eternal..." it is said. For those who missed my essay from last month--- "Putting Holes Into Happiness" Kneel down humble men and become the height of our children. Let your heart crawl into your knee and realize that all knowledge lives through imagination. This is the nursery business, always get a photocopy. Our cultures may continue to disintegrate but we just rebuild with abusement parks, filming the process and replaying it as situation comedy. We wear ribbons, hold hands, celebrate and concentrate on camps that train our kindergartens to shout out "star-spangled" banter. We will medicate the lunacy of "degenerate" art with heavy doses of old-fashioned (original recipe) family virtues. "Let's make sure all of these offensive forms of entertainment are shown publicly, and burned immediately as a warning to us all!" In the meantime, try to stay conscious. We are sitting in the EMERGENCY ROOM waiting for the doctor, a newly elected aesthetician, to come and pronounce his diagnosis. The grotesque, malignant cancer that is our expressions and our views is no longer the disease. We are being told that the sounds and images of art are now the symptoms of the creator. We as the artists, are now considered unhealthy and incurable. Let me remind you that the deformed scar of one man, is "love's pretty dimple" to me. The generation that lived through WWII accepted the concept of "total violence" as a solution to the world's problems. The mathematics of creative suffering and the milk of human violence are the formulas that our grandparents bottled and passed down to our parents. These are the "traditional" values that have built "protective," moral walls around our children's world. And it is, indeed, a small world after all.

do you want children? do you think you'll have them? ~Queen Aleta~

Answered by MM on 03/21/03:

Even in this world, so stubborn and blind...children are true and better than innocent. They are honest. I hope I can answer this some day.

From scaryourmind on 03/21/03:

I know it's been asked before, but what is your opinion on our war against Iraq's regime? You avoided the question last time it was posed. I remember when Marilyn Manson wasn't afraid to have an opinion about EVERYTHING. Now it seems like you're trying to remain neutral as to not alienate anyone from buying your cd. Correct me if I am incorrect. Abyssinia.

Answered by MM on 03/21/03:

I am not neutral in any way. This album was about war before there was one, simply because history repeats itself. This album contains my opinion and it is one that I will not explain or defend. I fought and won my own wars and the ones that you supported me in before this album was written. When you conquer something you have to build something new. The Golden Age of Grotesque is what I have to offer to the world...I have been saying this for my whole life and I am only ten years old. My words can't express what I put into my art and that is where great inspiration lives...we thrive in the face of fear. You say and do the greatest things when you don't know what will happen tomorrow.
